Thanks HvR, great advice.

If I lived out there we could all go TV shopping.
so i know i said i didn't want another vizio, but i had trouble finding any samsungs in the size i wanted. my dad has a costco card, so i got the following at costco for $699+ tax. i was going to get the 37", but my dad talked me into the bigger one and i'm glad he did. it's purdy.
thanks for the advice
I found these picture settings for that Vizio on another forum. Try them out and see if you like how they look. If not you should be able to restore them back to the factory settings.

Color Temp Custom with all colors set to 128

So I'm pretty worthless as far as electronics go. I've been searching for a while for some sort of portable solar powered generator. Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if this is worth a damn?
If not, does anyone have any better ideas?
can anyone give advice on hdmi cables? any help would be appreciated!
thank you menik, you're awesome - my stupid question is do I need hdmi to hdmi in addition to 1 hdmi cable? I don't have the tv yet, just trying to be prepared and I'm at a loss as to what to order.
All you need is one HDMI cable (which is a HDMI to HDMI - meaning the connect looks the same on both ends) to connect whatever device (cable box, blu-ray/ps3) to your future TV, and then obviously whenever you view the device that is connected via HDMI, you just have to have the TV on that specific input (whether it's Input 1 or 2 or whatever).
DO NOT BUY HDMI CABLES AT ANY STORE EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Amazon. Amazon Amazon Amazon.
I need an ipod Nano, but I'm afraid if I shell out for the 16GB, they will release a newer, bigger version soon. Is it pretty much a done deal that they are coming out with the 6th generation Nano in September?
I'm also open to buying used now and handing that down to my daughter when the next one comes out.
Firefox 4 Beta is now downloadable. Minor user interface changes and such, and it seems to handle flash support better. That is all.
Has anyone used their 4g as the access to the internet so you can drop Comcast or whatever .....
Have Another Hit Of Colorado Sunshine
Seriously. Ron. That's a horrible idea. You don't get 4G, and even if you did, it wouldn't be adequate speeds to serve as a home network. That mobile hotspot feature is aptly named.
Does anyone know of a good dvd ripping program for osx? I am googling now, but thought I'd ask you fine folks also.
I use MacTheRipper.
I tried that program and I think I was successful in ripping a dvd, but it the output formats were weird formats like .VOB, .BUP, .IFO. Basically I want to be able to rip a DVD straight to .avi or MPEG4.
i've had to do this to make .mov files from DVDs to run video from Pro Tools through an Avid Mojo to multiple screens and I've had a bitch of a time doing it.
EDIT: yeah, i've had Handbrake recommended a few times. Try that for sure. my studio splurged for the newest version of Toast before I heard about Handbrake.
Cool. It looks like Handbrake is going to work. I hate having a hackintosh. Thanks for your help guys.
As some of you know... I am moving across country and it's going to be a pain in the ass to move my ancient desktop across the country. Anyway, I need to buy something used and want to know if this is a good deal...http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/sys/1889701618.html
What questions should I inquire?
Is 60hertz really that much worse than 120? Fry's has a special: LG 42" 1080P 60 hertz for $450 today. To me it just seems to good to pass up, should I hold off and get a 120 when I have more money?
Edit: I read the frame rate vs. refresh rate calculations, I guess what I'm asking is it really that noticeable?

Truthfully, unless you are a videophile, you wont notice. Maybe if you have the two tvs side by side you might see something, but while your watching a badass HD movie youre not gonna be like, "Damn I wish I had sprung for the 120hz."
That's all the reassurance I needed, thanks. That is a damn good deal, no?
Very good. I bought a Samsung 40" 1080p a year and a half ago for $600 and i thought that was a steal. Go for it.
tech savvy board members ... my wifi is down at home and im trying to connect a dsl hardwire to my macbook, but im having trouble doing this it is not just plug and play apparently. if you could please help me out i would greatly appreciate it thanks !
David Pogue makes me chuckle.
CUPERTINO, Calif. — At a special press event today, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, unveiled a new lineup of iPod models, just in time for the holiday season. The diminutive iPod Shuffle still has no screen and is still made of brushed aluminum, but it now has _____ and comes in _____ colors. Apple tinkered with the proportions of the iPod Nano, too, adding _____ and redesigning the _____. The popular iPod Touch also received a makeover; it’s thinner now, and gains new features like a _____ and a _____. All models now offer better battery life and greater storage capacity.
(“Once again, Apple’s arrogance is on display as it forces the _____ lemmings to buy its overpriced ____-ware.”)
i just upgraded my Creative Zen Vision:M from a 30Gb to 80Gb. it was really, really easy and only cost me $100 for the new drive. not only have i more than doubled my capacity, but transfers are lightning quick now.
the ZVM is such a great mp3 player on so many levels.
just got these in the mail today and they are fucking awesome! great imaging, ample power and the bass is surprisingly good (despite the lack of sub).
ZD Net review. i paid $65 for them at B&H.
