I haven't tried any of the music apps due to skepticism. Are they useful in anyway? Usually when I come up with a melody or beat in transit I just record what I have in my head in a voice mail to myself and then work on it when I get home.

The music apps are a blast, of course you run the issue of recording it, but it's more for fun, the pocket guitar is fun it has bass, electric / acoustic, and even a ukulele

That could be really cool... I'll have to look into it. Have you seen this one (not really useful, but cool and musical)...

I'm having a blast making ringtones. I've got the horn section from Dancing Choose and the part from Grandmaster Flash's The Message where Melle Mel says "Bass!"

BlackSwan, midomi is *really* good for what you're talking about. Love it. You can hold it up where music is playing, or hum, or sing, or even speak lyrics, and it'll tell you the song. It works even right now when I'm so hoarse I can barely talk. Awesome.

I have the pandora app though I don't use it much, last.fm has an app (it doesn't let you scrobble real-time but you can listen to stuff in your library / radio / recommended tracks.

For social networking, I mostly use twitterific (for twitter) & facebook app. The apps for aim/yim/etc are crummy.

    Occasionally use urbanspoon/yelp/moviefone/etc apps

if you like boggle, 'wurdle' is fun. Though I end up playing it for a long time on my commute and it draws the battery a bit. I use stanza sometimes (ebooks) but it's a bit tedious to read on the iphone and the app is a bit buggy and crashes a lot.

oh - I like 'say where' a lot. it's like 411 but free. it's way easier to use than the maps app, when you're driving.

shazam is pretty cool. it will identify songs by holding your phone up to a speaker playing music.
rjdj is very awesome. you should try out the free demo first though.

I've tried both shazam and midomi and like midomi a lot better. Because it'll identify from a music source or just singing/humming/saying part of the song.

haha my cousin didn't believe me that midomi would really work EVEN with terrible singing like mine, and having had a few drinks, I found myself yelling in a bar: WE'RE NO STRANGERS TO LOVE, YOU KNOW THE RULES AND SO DO I. Bad stares.

Nobody's mentioned bloom yet. Incredibly relaxing. Thank you Brian Eno once again for being a genius.

I've got a BlackBerry Curve, but a friend of mine is getting an iPhone this week, and she's very excited about the iFart application.

i.TV is good for TV and movie showtimes.

Remote (by Apple) is great- lets you control your computer's iTunes from anywhere in the house via WiFi.

I use Stanza as an ebook reader- there are tons of free books on it. I don't do a lot of ebook reading, but it's nice to have when I find myself with some unexpected free time and nothing better to do.

Shazam, as mentioned previously, is excellent. Great bar trick.

SimCity is fun and full-featured but costs $10. All the others I mentioned are free.

They just released a copy an paste app. It's called clippy (I think). You can only copy and paste editable text though. But this allows you to post links, which makes it so you can post pics on here. Hooray!
