    Default eMusic -- what should I download?

    I'm about to cancel my eMusic subscription but I've got 18 songs left. Presently in my "Save for Later" folder are:

    She and Him, Volume One (13 tracks);
    The Decemberists, Her Majesty the Decemberists (11 tracks);
    Belle and Sebastian, The Boy With the Arab Strap (12 tracks),
    The Life Pursuit (13 tracks), and
    Push Barman to Open Old Wounds (disc 2, 13 tracks -- I already have, and love, disc 1)

    I also have Of Montreal's Satanic Twins, which I've already downloaded 2 of the 13 tracks off of. And I'm contemplating getting Iron & Wine Live from Lollapalooza (3 tracks). Most convincing suggestions by tomorrow afternoon are what I'll download.

    The Life Pursuit is quite possibly the second best Belle and Sebastian "Album". I'm fully convinced that Disc 1 of Pushi Barman contains most of their best music, and that If You're Feeling Sinister is far and away their best album, but The Life Pursuit was a shock almost, after the merely decent-to-good stuff they had done for the past 8 or so years. I'd recommend getting that over the others. With the rest of your downloads, get Sleep the Clock Around, It Could Have Been A Brilliant Career and Seymour Stein off Arab Strap and I'm Waking Up to Us and Jonathan David off disc 2 of Push Barman. With that, you'll have quite a big of Belle And Sebastian's best work.

    Sorry man. I didn't like the options you were giving us. I have lots of recommendations from eMu, but I am not sure if they are your bag.

    Wait. Is "Legal Man" an option? Because that fucking song. It makes me want to frolic like nothing else in the world.

    maybe its just me, but when i was with emusic, i could not find much that i wanted to download...i stayed with emusic for several months, but after typing in artist after artist, and getting nothing, i thought it was a waste of my money...of course, this was like a year ago, so maybe the site is better

    No, jigawig, it's still about that bad, which is why I'm leaving. Again. (I was lured back with the promise of another 50 free downloads if I restarted my account.) What's worse is that I have pretty much disliked whatever "experimental" albums I got, meaning albums by groups that I hadn't listened to previously but people on this board have been effusive over. Case in point: I downloaded My Morning Jacket's Evil Urges and didn't care for it at all. Maybe I'll give it a couple more spins but that felt like a waste when instead I could've just downloaded one of the albums listed above that I'm pretty confident I'll like.

    luckyface: if you've got recommendations that weren't listed, by all means, make 'em. They may not sound like the options I listed but I've got a pretty diverse taste. The primary reason those are the options is because eMusic has very few bands that interest me.

    SoulDischarge: whose song is "Legal Man"?

    Belle and Sebastian as well. Switch that with Jonathan David and you'll be just as happy. Both songs are equally good in my mind.

    Belle & Sebastian. It's on the second disc of Push Barman. Pure sunny 60's psych-pop bliss. The video doesn't come close to matching the song:

    I still say get She & Him, Volume 1, the stellar Asobi Seksu "Me & Mary" and "Stay Awake" singles and b-sides if you don't already have them, and I know you mentioned The Decemberists, but do you have The Tain? Because it's 18 epic minutes and still counts as only one download. But yeah, She & Him was something that grew on me. I was kind of meh at first but now it's one of my faves of 2008.
