Default Fotos de Espana (y Maroc)

I took a shit load of pictures while I was over there. Here are a few. These are a lot for one post so that's why I've made this a separate thread, so that I don't clutter up some other poor schmuck's ramblings.

Madrid. Did you know Duff was a real beer? I didn't.

Madrid, inside the 'Museo de Jamon'. they do pig really well in Spain.

    Madrid.

    Madrid, outside the Prado.

Aboard the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona.

Barcelona. view of La Sagrada Familia from the rooftop of La Pedrilla.

    Barcelona, old men playing petanque.

Barcelona, details of La Sagrada Familia.

    Tangiers.

    Outside Tangiers.

    Tangiers.

Africa, from Spain, across the Straits of Gibraltar

    Gibraltar.

    Sunrise in Marbella

Series of Dali sculptures in Marbella.

Ronda, outside the bullring. Bullfighting posters are the best.

    Ronda

Ronda, inside the bullring. Ronda is, I was told, the birthplace of Spanish bullfighting, which is a big deal there.

    Seville

Awesome pics Tom. When I was in high school I took a similar trip and wound up sneaking into Morocco without a passport via the Gibraltar ferry. In retrospect, that was not one of my wisest maneuvers.

Those pics make me feel like Amercians don't appreciate beauty in architecture because I've never seen such buildings here.

    Very nice, Tom.

I think it's more a matter of cost of labor. back in the day, skilled labor was relatively cheap, so you get all the ornamental carvings and ceramics and paintings and all that. today, that sort of labor is extremely expensive, so you only see it in the most extravagant of buildings.

Great pics, TomAz! I'd say my favorite is a toss between the Ronda one, or you and those camels. (Although the camel on the left appears to be possibly talking shit about you to the other camel. I hear they can get pissy like that.) Was this a business or leisure trip?

I have spent a lot of time in Spain cause my Dad's parents emigrated there to live in Marbella, when I was just a kid, and we went to visit them once a year or so. I have been to Ronda a couple of times, Gibraltar probably five times, and Marbella around fifteen times. I haven't been back since my grandparents both passed away three years ago, and this photos reminded me of a lot of memories. Thanks Tom.

<--jealous. Very cool pictures. I hope to go to Europe someday, and Spain is on the list of countries I'd like to visit.

And I think the camel on the left is sneering. Awesome.

    1. MUSEUM OF HAM?!?!!!!

    2. My family was actually supposed to go to Marbella several years ago, but the airfare got too crazy. How was it? I've heard it's quite ritzy but very beautiful.

These made me very jealous. After falling in love with London this summer, I pretty much abandoned all desires to visit Spain, even though it's been a goal of mine for quite some time. My family all hails from the Northern (Northeast, I suppose, to get more specific.) regions of Spain. Did you hit there at all? How was it, if you did?

Anyway, you pictures reinspired me to try and go to Spain this summer. At least I'll be able to get around by speaking. I think that's why I hated France so much

Seville was the best, no? I went to Spain with my family a bit back and i loved seville, although it was like 115 degrees the whole time. Also we stayed in that one hotel in Ronda that had a swimming pool that looked over that big canyon thing. It was great, tits AND a great view.

Oh and we went to a bullfight, but i do not remember where. It was so cool. There was this bullfighter that was like 17 or 18. It was a novice kind of fight, but still really cool. I may get some pictures up here later if anyone cares.

    Barcelona

Now the following section is not for the faint of heart. I will start with some of the nice bullfighting ones then work my way into the more gruesome ones. BEWARE.

The people showing their approval of the fight with white handkerchiefs

One of the bullfighters was awarded both of the ears of the bull, which is apparently impressing.

    great pics cansei.

yes seville was my favorite, and an unexpected surprise at that. I had always read that Barcelona was the best place in Spain but Seville wins that one. it just feels so spanish. and in November the weather is nice.

like I said before, bullfighting posters are the best posters this side of Coachella. I really wish I could have gone to an actual bullfight. Our guide in Seville had an interesting take on the morality of bullfighting. His take was, if you eat beef, then animals die for your needs. In a bullfight, yes the bull dies, but dies with honor and even sometimes glory -- it's an improvement on the slaughterhouse. Not sure I buy the argument but it was an interesting one. I did notice that the Spanish seem to revere the bulls more than they do the matadors. or maybe it's just in bad taste to mount a matador's stuffed head on your barroom wall.
