    Default rocky horror picture show

I'm just curious as to whether or not anyone on this board has ever been to a late night RHPS screening (with a shadow cast and audience participation and everything)

Yeah, I've been 10 or 15 times in as many years.

Living in a small town, we used to only have it a couple times a year, and it was always packed. Then someone tried to do it every Friday/Saturday and they just killed it off. I mean, even you only go once a month. Not enough faithfuls to support twice a week.

We didn't have it at all for many years. Now, the local community theater does a few shows near Halloween every year, and it's always a blast.

It's also great that it's still evolving. A few years ago, someone started up the "HIS NAME IS ROBERT PAULSEN! HIS NAME IS ROBERT PAULSEN!" bit.

So, what do you think of Shock Treatment?

    oh man. shock treatment.
there's a great AP line some friends and I concocted to express our feelings about it (and also a great piece of film trivia).

during don't dream it, be it, when the whole cast inexplicably turns around jumps into the pool for the orgy, you yell
"RUN, ASSHOLES! THE LAST ONE IN THE POOL HAS TO STAR IN SHOCK TREATMENT!"

speaking of evolution, a couple years ago, someone youtubed me doing a bit I invented that's an evolution of a classic.
don't mind my insanity in the clip by the way
    this is three years ago.
which means there's a good chance I was on LSD.
    or mushrooms.

    EDIT:
    right. the INTERESTING PART.
the video got shown to some people in the german (berlin and koln) and english (london) shadow casts, and they adopted it.
somewhere there's a video of the same thing being done by a german chick, in german.
I have to find it and youtube it.
god damn that 2000 CD storage chest was a miserable fucking idea.

Grew up going to it back in the 80s.
I had a cool uncle that took me when I was 10.
Was kind of cool being the only kid in 5th grade out til 3am on the weekends.
Before there was clubbing, there was Rocky, for me anyway.
Im pretty die-hard. Have seen it in the theater over 250 times and it never gets old for me. Love it.

    Yeah, I've heard that one.

The thing that bugs me about Shock Treatment is that's it's trying too hard. There's too many long pauses that are obvious set-ups to insert AP lines.

"...Yes...I've caught it a few times." Yawn...another VD joke...

But I gotta tell ya, I'd rather listen to the Shock Treatment soundtrack over Rocky any day. Also, it's more "watchable" as a film. You can watch it alone and it's still semi-amusing. I can't watch Rocky alone.

They need to take the audio from the Audience Participation record they made in the 80s and make THAT the audience track on the dvd.

The one thats there now is fuckin unintelligible.

I used to work in a Wherehouse where we had "Staff recommendation" shelves. (This was pre-Seinfeld.) I used to put Liquid Sky on mine just to piss people off. Originally, I had du-beat-E-o, but I was afraid it would get me fired.

Anyway, I watched Liquid Sky once...it was interesting, but I never had a desire to see it again. Kinda reminded me of Cafe Flesh.

I can't stand either of them. The DVD is just people trying to scream stuff over each other as fast as they can. But the old AP album (I have it on cassette) is so sterile. It's like they're reading from a script.

Around here, there's a few things that everyone says, but I like it when one guy says one thing, someone else says another, ect. Shit, I haven't been in a couple years. I used to have a great line- fit right in an empty space- can't remember for the life of me what it is.

"WE'VE GOT MOVIE SIGN!" is another of my favorite of the new ones.

Went regularly as a kid in the 80s. A couple of times in the 90s and went to a party just this last summer that projected it on the side of a garage. I still remember a lot of the lines.

The line I yelled that got the biggest laugh:

"Be Just and Fear Not... be stoned AND FEAR NOTHING!!"

My perosnal favorite line (that no one under 30 gets):

"And I realize... [I look like Gregg Brady on acid!]"

in tenth grade, I was part of my high schools gay straight alliance, and we put on a shadowcast performance of RHPS, just like the late night screenings, we had prop bags and each of us were a different character, I've seen this movie more times than I can remember and its just as good each time

It's just a jump to the left....

during columbia's time warp tap dance:
    two, four, six, eight
    show us how you masturbate
    three, five, seven, nine,
we know you do it all the time
one, two, three, four, lick that cum up off the floor
four, three, two, one, now the fun has just begun
    ten, twenty, thirty, fourty,
now you've got me good and horny
forty, thirty, twenty, ten, hit the stairs and start again!

also, whenever the professor says 'unt', there's a great two part callback:
"what the fuck is an unt?!"
"it's three quarters of a cunt!"

    Yes! Great soundtrack too.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is also worth finding.

My one huge regret is not moving to Cali another year earlier.

For if I had, I would have been able to see Rocky at the UC in Berkeley before it ended and the theater closed.

It played there for 22 FUCKING YEARS. Some say thats the longest continuous run of a film anywhere in the world.

    that's awesome.
the current toronto cast has only been around fifteen years or so- the members themselves much less, save for a few serious die hards.
one person, amy, has been part of the toronto rocky tradition since...
    78 or 79. I can't recall at the moment.
there have been short (two month) gaps in the schedule, and a couple of venue changes, but the historic (and huge) bloor cinema has proven a stable home for more than a decade now. its' 806 original red velvet seats (30% in a huge, raked balcony), are completely filled for four consecutive shows at halloween, and on any given month, it's not unusual to see three to five hundred people lined up outside.
I really need to do some decent videography of excited mental state (the cast/associates). nobody has yet.

I got totally addicted to Rocky when I was in jr High. I would wear fishnets and bondage to school, and tried to get my friends to do the time warp with me. (I grew up in a super conservative republican catholic town, did not go over well).

Since then I've seen it at least 100 times, and have won several costsume contests, and own the original roxy cast recording on vinyl. And I have a "don't dream it, be it" liscense plate holder for my car.

And every year at Coachella, I can't help but think how awesome a showing with shadow cast would be in the campgrounds.
