I caved and decided to pay 10 bucks to try the premium service.
No ads and iphone. Nice. Desktop app is nice too.

While it is VERY cool, i will prolly cancel the premium service at the end of the month.
All I keep thinking when I randomly come up on music i dont own is *note to self: download later*.
I prefer to own my own music.
But yes, this is nice too.

Was surprised they had stuff as obscure as iamamiwhoami and Cazwell.

I'm less impressed so far than I thought I'd be. (I used Spotify for a little while when overseas and liked it a lot at the time... guess the difference was that I didn't have my music library with me so it was better than almost nothing). Not a fan of the client interface at all, I think the notion of "friends" could have been done a lot more simply. So far most of what I've searched for in music isn't there.

It reminds me a lot of bebo, except with bebo, you didn't have to download a client. Once I'd gotten my entire library set up and organized on Bebo... Apple went and bought them out and dismantled the service. :P

That kinda makes me wonder if this thing really takes off here in the US, what is Apple gonna do?

I'm on crack, it was Lala. (Bebo is social networking. Same friends worked at both and I've started confusing them apparently). Lala was wonderful, in theory, but some of the technology didn't work very well in practice and especially with larger libraries. It does seem like Apple basically bought them to go away. I think most of the Lala people were moved to work on itunes p-i-n-g, and Apple had claimed that they would not just dismantle the technology but incorporate it into their product. But why? Streaming seems like a weird business for them to get into when it would potentially take away from digital music purchases. Though if Apple were to offer an equivalent to the Zune Pass, I probably would at least give it a try. What it would have over all the other services is the seamless integration to the application that a lot of us are already using.

Spotify is already way bigger than Lala was, I think, even before the Spotify US launch so it seems an unlikely candidate for Apple to try to buy?

in two days spotify has garnered more talk on the board (and probably many other corners of the internet) than any of the other equivalent services that have been offering the same thing for years.

I went for ice cream a few times. That's how they're giving them out.

EDIT: and they're all gone now. If I get some more today, I'll report back here.

For those of you that PMd me for invites, I have 12 more and will scan them in a few days, if there is still interest. Just PM me (again?) and I'll figure out how to parse them out. Give me a few days to get caught up from my trip.

It keeps on freezing for me and saying "the next song will play after the commercial" or something like that, but the commercial never plays. It's doing this both on my personal laptop and my work computer. Am I doing something wrong?

Commercials? I've been listening ALL DAY and haven't heard one commercial, nor has it froze on me. I am a pretty big fan of this so far.

Man, how buggy. I hope they fix this. I know it isn't the mac or pc version specifically, because I have experienced it on both. And yes, the commercial thing seems completely arbitrary for me, although I'm sure they have some sort of algorithm to determine when/how often they are played.

So far it's been nice to check out artists (by listening to their entire album and not just youtube songs, that you have to search for individually) that I haven't heard of. I've been checking out Decibel artists all day. I don't know why. I should be checking out Thinking Fellers Union or something. Anyway, in summary:

You can check out artists albums in full that you have never heard of before without downloading said album directly to your hard drive.
