Who is the next Radiohead?

I know this has been discussed already but I have been listening to a lot of Grizzly Bear lately and it has occurred to me that these guys could potentially be the “Next Radiohead”. I can’t think of any of the “new” bands out now that are making something like this and doing it in a pop song setting (3 to 5 minute pieces). So I had the idea of asking the board, who do you, think can/will be the next Radiohead?

Another band I can say if perhaps The Animal Collective. I think the only thing that is holding AC back is maybe that they have tracks that seem to stretch on for days as opposed to the pop song setting that allows people to get into them quicker. If AC ever decides to move in that direction then we might have own new “Radiohead”.

Arcade Fire is interesting, but I can't see them maintaining things... It's possible. I would say Grizzly Bear. They have serious staying power and they are also appealing to pretty much everyone. I would love to see AC get big, but I just can't see it happening.

I don't think Grizzly Bear are quite as accessible as Radiohead, to be honest. And I mean, Radiohead do some weird shit sometimes, but then there's Creep...

To be honest, I really don't think Arcade Fire will remain a single unit as long as Radiohead have. Even if they did keep up the output, I don't think they'll last indefinitely. I mean, I know for such a big band they have a curiously democratic dynamic, but I dunno. I just can't imagine that, at the very least, the middle seven will all stay put forever.

Arcade Fire are different... they're just not Radiohead.
And I don't mean that in a negative way. They just occupy a separate space in the universe.

Musically speaking, they have the same reflective-melancholy atmosphere to their music... though genre/stylistically its currently quite different.

That's the thing though, isn't it? We can't just have "another Radiohead", because Radiohead have already been Radiohead. We'd need a band who doesn't sound like them, but has the same kind of impact.

Animal Collective is amazing. They are my most listened to artist over the past year, since I began listening to them. Can't wait for the new album and the tour.

I'm really getting into Deerhunter as of late, I see them being around for a long time.

AC is most definitely not going to be the next Radiohead. Their sound isn't accessible enough for alot of people; not everyone can enjoy them.

I think you missed the point actually. AC and Grizzly Bear DO NOT sound "like" Radiohead. What I mean by the "Next Radiohead" is a band that takes the mantle that Radiohead currently has. Being highly respected by their peers, puts out amazing records one after another, builds on becoming a fantastic live act and is overall accesible to a wider audience. After the next act emerges then people will ask "Who will be the next .... ?".

I'm surprised no one's mentioned them yet, but now that Jonathan Meiburg has left Okkervil River to focus on his band full time, I think Shearwater's got a shot to get absolutely massive. Their sound on some songs is very Radiohead-like, they keep their songs mostly under 5 minutes, are experimental, yet accessible and are just plain fantastic. Their new album hasn't gotten as much press as I would've thought, but seriously, go check out Rook right now if you haven't and let me know what you think.

Radiohead didn't invent krautrock or avant-garde electronic music, either-- let alone UK post-punk, American alt-rock, or the Beatles. Win's said a couple of times that The Bends was one of the things that made him want to make music. Can't decide was that in a "Jesus, this is depressing. I better write Wake Up or take drugs or something." kinda way.
