I like the San Francisco one for the quirky layout, and I've usually been able to find what I want there, but I prefer San Francisco's Amoeba to the Rasputin. In Berkeley, it's the other way around, though. The Berkeley Rasputin has a great selection, and usually is cheaper than Amoeba.
Looks like Another Planet has been busy. They will start announcing shows on Jan. 5th.

Our bold vision for the Fox Theater is now a reality.
After closing its doors forty-three years ago, the Fox Theater is scheduled to reopen in February 2009 with a run of performances from entertainment's top acts. The $75mm multi-use renovation project will feature a state-of-the-art theater with flexible capacity from 1,500 to 2,800.
The theater's wrap around building will be the permanent home for the Oakland School for the Arts, a tuition-free charter school dedicated to artistic and academic excellence. By night, the theater will offer premier ground floor bars and restaurants that open out to a courtyard of trees, benches, and newly widened sidewalks.
As a live music venue, arts school, and restaurant, the theater's opening will anchor the long-awaited renaissance of Oakland's Uptown entertainment district.

That's Gavin Newsom's personal redevelopment project...
I may or may not participate with that venue cuz the paramount and it's staff sucks ass!!!
The Rasputin in Campbell rocks, I like the berkley and the SF ones but Campbell is close to my house...
which story Gavin Newsom's Redevelopment project of the fox theatre? Or, The Paramount's suckass staff???
Gavin newsom bought the structure years ago and began redeveloping it to bring up the neighborhood, during this process was the peak activity of various pot clubs in the surrounding area...needless to say they've been closed due to violations of handi-cap access...
Paramount Theatre...I went to go see Erykah Badu & The Roots there this past summer, it was hot, narrow rows, no access to outdoor smoking section after show started, no outdoor access for fresh air or to cool off, confescation of paraphenalia & camera's...I've never been to a a show where security has walked up to you taken a camera out of someone's hands to the extent of deleting photos...That's unneccesary bullshit and to wait 45 minutes in line for a bottle of water...come on!!!
It's an apropos name then I guess.

Are you pushing it out, you ******?
I went to SF after chella this year and I'm going to talk about 5 things:
1. Anchor Brew tour(free beer)
2. walk away crab sandwich
3. Toranado
4. Rogue Brewhouse
5. the tamale lady
I'm going to put your sidekick in my mojito.
Anchor steams tour rocks, Speakeasy's tour is cool too...
So every February the Bistro in Hayward has their Double-IPA Festival. I highly recommend it. If you like hoppy pale ales that are all at least 9% ABV, make sure to check it out. There's so many and they're soooo good. Oh, and make sure you have a driver because you WILL get fucked up.
Whiskey Sour
