So why are you moving to Richmond and not Berkeley or Albany? Those are much safer neighborhoods. I lived in El Cerrito for a year (just six months ago). El Cerrito is just south of Richmond but is much safer and easier BART access.

And the crime in Richmond is for real. There are some really sketchy neighborhoods (worse than the shit that I would see in downtown Atlanta), there is a serious gang problem, and if you have a car, theres a good chance its going to get stolen.

Thank you. It was certainly better than the other choices I had. There were dojos in Canada, Colorado, Washington, Wisconsin and South Florida. I'd much rather stay on the West coast, close to family/friends and Coachella.

I'll be living IN the dojo/place of business so I don't have a choice of where to live. It's near El Cerrito but on the West side of the 580, just off of Bayview Ave. No car, so I won't have to worry about it.

This fire today was horrible. I walked within a block of the fire and was doused with ash and could hardly breath from all the smoke. The smoke was quite thick as far south as Hayes. Those poor people that lived in those buildings...I can't even imagine going through that. I'm amazed that nobody died. Thank allah for the SFFD! Structure fires are, pretty much, the only real fear I have of living in San Francisco. Very unsettling.

I only just found out about that - my mom called, I used to live on McAllister so she thought it was near me. It looks terrible.

That is one of my biggest fears about SF, bigger than earthquakes, I've known 6 people who lost all their belongings (and a few of them lost their pets ) in fires. Some of them didn't have renter's insurance, so they literally started over with nothing. I can't imagine. Their places were also uninhabitable so they were stranded and relying on friends' couches until they could find a new apartment. I think I'm gonna go mail in my renter's insurance payment tomorrow. :P

There was a fire in my apartment in Oakland earlier this year and I was so thankful I had renter's insurance. It hadn't affected me, but the unit that burned to the ground - those people lost everything.

And there was that fire at Fillmore and Haight earlier this year, too. Something like 40 units in that apartment complex completely destroyed.

Tomorrow is free museum day. Anyone want to come with me to SFMoMA or De Young? I haven't been to DY for a while, but I'm curious to see the new exhibit at MoMA. Any takers?

Come on, assholes, free admission to world-class art museums. Not only that, you get to hang out with me, and we can even go get sandwiches.

    Don't be stupid.

Hahahaha, I just saw your post in the LP thread and I was going to link this thread in my response. How was MoMA today? How was the exhibit on the 4th floor? It was not yet open during last free Tuesday.

EDIT: Just noticed you went alone, shucks. PM me next time you come up and we'll hang out and go digging for records.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Bradford stuff, but the Rineke Dijkstra photos were great. There was one set of a soldier before he went into the military and while he was in the military that was great. I'd never been there before so I also really enjoyed the stuff on the second floor a lot.

Is second floor the modern art? That Matisse at the entrance slays me everytime. As does the other Matisse inside on the facing wall, adjacent to the Picasso. I could spend all day with those ladies. The top floor is also quite good.

    Had a museum day today:

    1) SFMOMA has a cool photography exhibit on right now (Rineke Dijkstra) that includes a couple of video installations of people dancing on camera. One of the installations is shot at a club in England in the 90's. It's loltastic. We actually stayed to watch the entire reel (25 minutes) and... I would have watched it over and over again if I had more time.

    2) The de Young's Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit is insanely wonderful. Huge number of designs on exhibit and through parts of the exhibit they use cyberquins (animated mannequins). I won't say much more, it needs to be seen, it's so cool. I'm definitely going back through that exhibit a few more times.

Got a few dudes from England visiting this weekend. Not sure what to do/where to take them.
The only thing I got out of them so far is drinking, so I guess bar hopping is on list.
    Any suggestions?
