Last serious question, five things that are a must before you die?
Last serious question, five things that are a must before you die?
Must is a strong word. I have a number 'i would really like to do this' things
1. Eat a meal prepared by Ferran Adria. He closed El Bulli though so I don't know how to make this happen.
2. Go to the North Pole.
3. Learn to play guitar. I have a guitar, I tried to learn once, but I don't have the patience or something. I wish I could just download it into my brain.
4. Watch the Cardinals win the Super Bowl
5. Punch Morrissey in the nose.
Loved these.
1. Name the literary character you share the most in common with.
2. You have a free pass to murder anyone in the world. Do you do it? Whom would you choose and how would you carry it out?
3. You have the power to stop one band from ever playing another note. Who's it gonna be?
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case....
tom,
what's something your family, or close friends don't even know about you?
words of wisdom that you've been told, or read that continues to make an impact on your life?
if Morrissey saved your life would you still punch him in the nose after?

1. Swede Levov, in Philip Roth's American Pastoral. I guess. I'm not Jewish or from New Jersey though.
2. 'free pass' is a nebulous term. does it mean I won't be persecuted for a crime by the government? will the act be publicized? will I have to face other consequences of my actions? The gut reaction is to commit a political assassination, but, I can't think of anyone to kill that I wouldn't just make a martyr. Do I have to actually do the deed with my own hands, or can I just wish it so? I don't like blood.
I would say Kobe Bryant, cuz he sort of deserves it, but I think he's on the downside of his career and it would be a waste.
Yeah I dunno if I could even do it.
3. Coldplay
In your opinion, what is the single greatest problem/challenge facing our country today?
What's the most pimp thing you have ever done?
Dumbest thing you've done in Vegas?
Thread you are most intrigued by, yet rarely post?
Top three traits that have progressed your career?
A belief you stand behind, yet you know is incorrect.
If there's Coachella to be had, I'm gonna have it
If you had the choice The Replacements or The Clash?
If money wasn't an issue, and you could follow one band around on tour for a 3 year span, what band would it be and what 3 years and why?

- I don't think I understand 'pimp' as an adjective. But I did once rent a Jaguar in Vegas.
- see above
- Best albums of 2011
- Intelligence, work ethic, communication
- My dislike of Elbow. I can't get into their stuff, and I've tried. it reminds me of so much crap. and yet many people whose taste I respect love them. So I suspect I'm wrong, and yet, I can't get past it. Yeah I know that's not a belief.
The Clash.
If anybody asks me about regrets, this is it. I never got to see either band live. I saw Joe Strummer, I saw Mick Jones, I even saw Paul Simonon solo -- but never the Clash. It just never worked out. They weren't where I was. in retrospect I should have done something about that. I've also seen Westerberg but never the Mats, and that was more because of .. well I don't know what. They were where I was but I guess it never worked out for some reason.
Hey Great One. First, please tell the story of the worst physical pain you have ever experienced. And were you raised with religion? If so, give us your take on that from being a young un' to your current state, please.
What would you do if you were the GM of the Suns? What changes would you make? I know how much you love Robert Sarver.
EDIT* Feel free to play GM of the Diamondbacks/Cardinals as well.

by 'what 3 years' I assume you mean I can time-travel.
Elvis Costello & the Attractions, 1978-79-80. I've been a little obsessed with pretty much exactly this time period in recent months. Elvis was at the peak of his creative arc (which actually lasted 76-82, really) and the Attractions were just killing it. Listen to "Live at Hollywood High" and you'll get a flavor for what I mean.
Honorable mentions: so many. Beatles in Hamburg, 62-63. The Who in the early 70s. Springsteen mid 70s, the Clash & Talking Heads late 70s/early 80s. REM early/mid 80s, Sonic Youth mid/late 80s, etc etc etc.
Worse show you have ever seen and why? If u can't pick one just a top 5 list?
I had a fingernail removed without anesthesia.. dude just yanked it out, then they did a tight wrap on the exposed nailbed.
I was raised with religion until I was about 13 then my parents lost interest. I think they got pissed off at something, certainly not theological. never quite got that story. I am currently active in a progressive church where I take nothing literally but believe it is all true in some abstract sense that I can't begin to understand let alone explain. The mere fact of existence rather than nothingness is sort of befuddling to me.
the first thing to jump into my mind is Danielson Famile, opening for the Flaming Lips, at the Hammerstein in NYC a few years ago. the FLs were fabulous but Danielson is the single worst band I can ever remember hearing. I didn't know their music but knew their connection to Sufjan Stevens and so was sort of looking forward to checking them out. Holy shit they were awful.
i saw the Stranglers in like 1981 and they played two songs, got spat on, got pissed off, Jet Black knocked over his drum kit and they stormed off the stage. after about 20 minutes they came back and the same thing repeated itself (they were also having sound problems). 2nd time they stormed off, house lights came up, show over.
I accidentally overheard the opening notes to Hotel California when i was leaving ACL a few years ago when the Eagles were headlining.
This isn't quite the same and I've told this story before but here it is: I saw Heart in a big sports arena in like 1981, which was fine, meaning it was about what you'd expect. But, earlier in the day I was offered a $5 ticket to see U2 in a little tiny club and I turned it down because I had these Heart tickets. U2 was on their 1st US tour, supporting Boy.
If I were GM of the Suns I would immediately initiate a friendship with Jerry Colangelo and beg him to buy the team back. He'd know what to do. I haven't a clue, I think they're a lost cause for a few years.
Cardinals: do what it takes to retain Fitz, which means sign Kolb. Keep Whisenhunt and rely on his judgment as to how long to keep Dockett, AW, etc.
Dbacks: I'd give Gibson an extension today.
Tom,
What is the biggest lie you have ever told?
Tom. What is your favorite cereal. Also, if you do in fact eat cereal, do you ever slice up fruit and add it in?
What's the biggest risk in your life?
Consider both significance and likelihood.
