This was about the top three bands, I too could not name just 3 and they change often.

But.... for right now at this moment, what are the 3 songs you have been listening to most?

Do you follow certain genres of music or record labels? And if yes, why?

Hmm...the 3 songs I've been listening to the most this past week are:

    Claude VonStroke-- Vocal Chords

Broken Social Scene -- Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old-Girl

    Memory Tapes -- Stop Talking

I don't really pay much attention to record labels. My boyfriend is obsessed with Pitchfork and Tiny Mix Tapes, so I am influenced by that pretty directly. Just seeing what bands people talk about on here is an influence, too. As for genres--I like a wide variety, but still can't really get into hip-hop, dub-step, trance, or heavy metal.

Executive Producer, in other words producer in name only. There were seven actual producers on the project.

I'm sure it was a collective effort to make that movie a piece of mushy, one-liner bullshit. I can't believe my friends were so moved by it. The dialogue made me want to tear my hair out.

Nice! Broken Social Scene is great.

I'm an old school raver at heart, yet hate trance & happy hardcore with a passion... the shit makes me want to break kandi kid's faces. Not too keen on the dubstep as well, but love some indie hip hop.

werd. Well they made P Diddy the voice of reason in that movie. I am sure he threw the movie some $ whenever they made him look like a guardian angel.

Fuck that, no one in the rap world respects Diddy.

The dialogue was thuggin'. You're crazy guedi.

So you're not so much into hip-hop? Why? Has no one ever shown you the wonders of underground hip-hop or lyrically-focused rap music or what? Can you be persuaded to at least give rap music and hip-hop a (second) chance?

Also, if that's really not your thing, can I get a good idea of what kind of music I'd hear if we hung out? I need to know where you're coming from with this not being that into hip-hop business.

Salty...I guess. The main reason I care about food to begin with are the condiments: mayonaise, cream-cheese, ranch dressing, and sour cream. It's a sad day if I can't incorporate one of those into a meal.

Actually I'm pretty sure what happened is that they gave Puff an exec producer credit and Biggie's mother a producer credit in exchange for them signing off on the story.

I think Anticon is a good introduction into the underground... it's odd and diverse. cLOUDDEAD and Subtle being a perfect example.

    Good ol' Suge.

My favorite Suge moment is when he hung Vanilla Ice out of a balcony so that he would "willingly" sign to Deathrow

Yea, I get that there is merit in lyrically focused rap music, and I have legitimately tried to listen to some stuff. It just doesn't really do anything for me. I've grown up with and been around predominantly white, well-to-do suburban kids my whole life, and when I see them bump rap or hip-hop and cop a thuggish attitude I've always rolled my eyes. It's definitely judgmental on my part. I did once go to an underground hip-hop club in San Diego and I had a good time. It's just not something I'm generally drawn to.

I did used to listen to and really like The Cunninglynguists.

If you want to call it hip hop... It's on an indie label called anticon. It's a small collective from the Bay area who formed to make a different sound. I think they've done well for themselves. You should check out their site. www.anticon.com

Check out cLOUDDEAD, 13 & God (Themselves & Notwist), Subtle, and WHY? ... I'd say they're the most popular. If you want to go a little further, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Sole, Themselves, and Restiform Bodies.

I definitely find it more accessible and enjoy it more than straight rap, but I still don't know too much about it. I legitimately like People Under the Stairs and Outkast's albums, and I saw um...Aesop Rock and Murs live, which was fun. Oh and I have DJ Craze's Fabriclive CD which I think is great. But it's still not a genre I'm driven towards listening to. And I hate dancing to hip-hop, because it seems to only result in stranger grindage.
