I have more than one perfect day. Coachella would be one of those.
Ask, and you shall recieve...???????????????????????????????????????? ?? LOL pixiessp, say you happened to come across an old bottle one day, and as you went to wipe off the dust to see the label, it began to smoke and suddenly a magic genie appeared...As you begin to get excited over imagining 3 wishes being granted, the genie imforms you that due to the economy, he can only afford to grant you one wish...What would be the one thing you would wish for?
Pixie - who are you going to choose for next week's questions?
Pixiessp,
if you could only listen to music from one continuous 5-year span, where in the timeline of music history would your 5 years be?
What is your biggest regret?
Pixies,
You wake up in the morning and the zombie apocalypse is upon us. There is chaos on the news and in the streets. The news doesn't really say what is going on but it is painfully obvious to you what this is. Think the beginning of Dawn of the Dead. No zombies have yet to threaten your home but it won't be long before one or more does. The zombies are fast and violently aggressive. Walk us through the first 24 hours or so.
What is your initial reaction?
What would be your short term and long term goals?
What are the first 5 things you would gain possession of?
Where would you go? Or would you fortify your residence and bunker down? Why?
Feel free to elaborate beyond the questions asked.
What excites you the most about the future?
I've enjoyed reading your responses this week, Pixiessp. New ones...
- As a teenager, did you wear out your VHS copy of The Hunger? Don't lie.
- When strangers ask about their daughter, how do your parents respond (or how would they respond if they're no longer around)? What would they say are your strengths and your admirable qualities? What would they say you need to work on? Are they right in their assessments?
- Who did you vote for for President? How would you rate Obama's performance during his first year in office? What's he doing right? In your estimation, has he done anything cringe-worthy?
This is the question that I feared because I knew I would have a hard time deciding. But I knew it would show up sooner or later.
I juggled between 1979 to 1984 and 1988 to 1993.
I would have to say even though my beloved Pixies didn't come out with Surfer Rosa til 86 I choose 79 to 84 because of Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. But....The Cure wins by the slimmest of margins.
I honestly cannot imagine my life without Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim, Doolittle,Bossanova or Trompe Le Monde either. 88 to 93 would also give me access to My Bloody Valentine and Lush.
I changed my mind. 1988 to 1993 it is.![]()
You've mentioned playing the bass. How long have you been playing, and are you a disciplined player who practices daily, or is it more of a novelty when the mood strikes you? Have you ever gotten together with anyone for a jam session, or played in a group? And, other than the bass, do you sing, or have any other instruments you play? Any vids to post?
Many things.

In the immediate future:

Getting to frolic in Santa Barbara during Fiesta this week.
Grizzly Bear in October
The Pixies in November
It's all good, people. It's allllll good.
Joann,
Name one musical artist that gets all kinds of praise that you don't "get".
Name one musical artist that is generally maligned by critics that you adore.
I hate Zombies so my first reaction would be "AH SHIT". After the initial shock I would begin my preparations for the inevitable onslaught.
Truly, long term/short term goals would no longer make sense to me as I would be concentrating on staying alive and one step ahead of these feckin
things. The 5 possessions I would deem necessary would be:
My Laptop(surely not all communication would be lost).
My phone(need to stay in contact with my loved ones. That is if the zombies don't eat the cell phone beacon thingies).
My Bike(for when I run out of gas or in case the Zombies destroy my car).
My Ipod(of course I would use only one earbud. The other ear would be on alert).
My Car(did I even have to list this. How else can I get away).
I would go wherever the zombies were not. I would remain on the go.
I would not stay put because I know if I do I will surely die.
If I head north I'm thinking I will have a better chance. Why? Because, for some reason, the zombies would have originated in San Diego.
Just a feeling I have.![]()
Along the way I would try to band together with others to create a
zombie fighting army.
Ha Ha!!! I'm pretty sure I was out of High School when the Hunger came out.
I have never owned this movie but have seen it many a time.
I had the biggest crush on Ann Magnusson. Too bad she gets killed at the beginning.
Second question: My dad would probably tell people I play the trumpet and bass. This makes him happy. My mom might say I'm pig headed.
I would probably tell you I am fiercely loyal to my friends and family.
As far as things I need to work on: Procrastination. I haz it.
I voted for Obama. I think he has not yet gotten into his groove.
He is not making any impact as of yet as far as I can tell but, then again,
I am not paying much attention to the Presidency at the moment.
I started dabbling with the bass in HS. Played for a spell with the church band.(guess that's what it was called). Didn't pick it up again till I was 30.
That was in 1990. So it appears have been canoodling off and on with the bass for over 20 years. That's amazing since I suck pretty bad.
Wanted to be a more serious musician but it never happened.
I hardly ever pick it up anymore. I have played in a few bands but nothing to write home about. As far as singing. YIKES!!!! I want to be able to but I just don't have the pipes. I took ear training in college which requires sight singing. I did really well at hitting the notes. It's just the quality of the note that was my downfall. I'm sure if I practiced I could get better.
In addition to my 4 string and 5 string Fender basses,I have a Cort electric guitar. It's a wee thing and sometimes it works and sometimes not.
Also have my beautiful Super Olds trumpet. It's silver and gorgeous. That is my primary instrument. Also have a cheapy keyboard that I play on occasion.
I'm hoping to take over for Keyboard cat. God rest his soul. ha!!
No videos to post. Thank goodness.
I do.![]()
What superpower would you want and how would you use it?
