We did the 'rent a convertible' thing when we flew down from Vancouver to LA in 2004. It was so hot that most of the time we put the roof up and cranked the air conditioning! It was also a bit of a bummer to reserve a Mustang convertible and get stuck with a Sebring convertible for some reason I can't remember (fox rent a car; very good except for that).
