That video makes me smile. This might be The National's best album by the way.

Lets give them the Radiohead treatment, shall we?

    1. Trouble Will Find Me
    2. Alligator
    3. Boxer
    4. Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers
    5. The National
    6. High Violet

2 and 3 are tight. A slight edge to Alligator because I think it has more of an edge or teeth to it. Boxer is the one that hit me first and I have a very personal attachment to that record in a different way. I do feel Trouble Will Find Me has the best song writing we've heard from Matt thus far.

Also I heard Matt was recently a guest on The Nerdist popdcast for those who are into that sort of thing. I have not listened to it.

I was really, really pleased when they played "Thirsty" at the Bowl in 2011

Not counting The Virginia EP . . . mostly demos and live cuts, though I appreciate the Springsteen worship.

Agreed. I'm still holding out for Lucky You, Slipping Husband and Perfect Song. I know Lucky You was played a few times on the last tour but the other two seem highly unlikely any time soon. Oh and Dolled Up in Straps. Holy shit I love that song.
They may have played those songs at an early Wiltern show before I was familiar with anything more than Boxer and Alligator.

The Virginia is a great EP. Without Permission and Santa Clara are two of my favorites from that one.

Yeah, Dolled Up in Straps is amazing. I think I also read Matt say in some interview it's one of his favorites. Weird that they don't play it more.

Maybe they will bring it back at some point. I'm hopeful. I would love for them to do a Residency in L.A. (tho NY is more likely). A full week of shows where each album is featured each night.

The Cherry Tree EP is even better than The Virginia IMO.

Do you guys still *love* Trouble Will Find Me?

I haven't listened to it in MONTHS, and it doesn't even pop in my head as a "Hey, I want to listen to..." random suggestion anymore. That didn't happen to High Violet for me until probably a year after it was released.

Just curious if I'm the only one, but in my mind the new album is already pushed by the wayside.

I thought it was a very good album, but haven't revisited it much, and don't think of it nearly as fondly as the three albums before it. No real reason . . . maybe the 'more of the same' factor.

I don't think Trouble Will Find Me quite stacked up to the last three, but I'm still listening to it quite a bit. The National albums are just so easy for me to listen through, especially at work, which is unfortunately where I do most of my listening. It isn't a summer record, so I'm guessing I will give it more spins over the next few months.

I still listen to this album 3-4 times a week, but then again I am a superfan....... so yeah, I don't count. I still like Boxer, and Alligator more than High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me. Trouble Will Find Me has some of my favorite National songs now though(Heavenfaced, Pink Rabbits, I Need My Girl). Those three songs get to me every single time I listen to them.

My friend showed me The National on the way back from Arcade Fire last night. He described the new album as having more variety. I liked what I heard from it.

As a superfan of this band, High Violet is probably my least favorite album. I think Trouble Will Find Me is better and I have listened to it more than High Violet and it still gets regular rotation from me. I think the songwriting for one is possibly at its strongest yet. Pink Rabbits, Humiliation and Slipped are my favorites from this album. My favorites are still the older albums. I played out Boxer but it's about perfect. Cherry Tree, The National and Sad Songs are great. I would have trouble ranking them all at this point even if I have in the past. Current favorite is Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, for a long time it has gone back and forth between that and the self titled.

What's the deal with deal with that Colorado show all by itself on January 3? Are they paying for a ski trip or could they add some more dates around that still?

They just added another show, too. Weird, cause the Jan 3 show isn't even sold out and the tickets for these shows are $165!! :O What efffin special shows are these?! Wonder if it's cause the venue's capacity is 450....

I would bet it's more than just capacity. It's probably some sort of charity deal.

The film premiere and concert last night at the Shrine was terrific.

Mistaken For Strangers is hilarious. For those that don't know, the film was directed by Matt Berninger's (The National lead singer) younger brother, Tom. It's basically the story of the metal-head, nine-years-younger brother, Tom, (a chubby buffoon and borderline alcoholic) who is hired as a roadie to go on tour with the band, and ends up shooting a documentary in the process, with which he has to figure out how to put it all together. It's all very meta, and it's all laugh out loud funny. Had my attention the whole time, even in a huge auditorium with some chatter and people coming in and out/drinking/etc. Fans of the band and fans of rock documentaries should definitely be sure not to miss it!

After the film, The National played an excellent 100-minute set and closed the show with an acoustic "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks." It was a really nice evening.

The show was great. I thought the movie was just so so but the concert was excellent. Not at the level of the Cemetery show last year but still fantastic.

You have another chance Friday, April 25th at Santa Barbara Bowl. More floor tickets just opened up. And they're with the phenomenal Portugal. The Man.
