I have a Mammoth pass, but do to a six night hospital stay that ended on Christmas and then 10 days of aggressive antibiotics that left me too dizzy to even run errands, I am so ready to hit the snow.

Got a new board, a helmut cam for Christmas. My man has a film that made it into Sundance,so Park City may be my first run of the season.

My friend hit up Squaw before Christmas. I know how awesome it was. Damn!

There were 6 inches of snow on the ground when we woke up this morning and it's showing no signs of stopping!

Going to get out sled right now...

Was supposed to hit up Sunshine today but we had a fucking blizzard and all the roads are fucked. Hopefully the roads will be plowed today and I can get there tomorrow since I have Mondays off. It only has a 110cm base though so we'll see how much fun it actually is.

In other news, I just bought a new board and boots. Just searching for the right bindings right now.

My friend's family's cabin is 3 minutes away from the Snowshoe Brewery. We have spent many an evening after fun in the snow at Bear with growlers from Snowshoe. I haven't been up there yet this season, from your pics, it looks like it's about time I did.

My buddy was telling me about their take and bake pizzas that snowshoe has, I would be in heaven with a cabin close by and hitting up bear.

Grizzly bowl was nuts, first time at bear...

Snowshoe's pizzas are pretty darn good and are the best food item that they have to offer. We've been going up to my friend's cabin since the mid-nineties and have spent a ton of time up there both in the Summer and Winter. In the Summer, Bear's lifts run and are set up for Mt. Biking. One year, while on a ride, we had a Fear and Loathing moment and ran into a bunch of heavily armed 4x4ers. It was quite comical and more than a little bit disturbing. Luckily, the situation didn't deteriorate into something out of Deliverance If you like Redwoods, there's Big Trees State Park close by in Calaveras and it has some freaking huge old growth redwoods, which are quite cool. The Park is open in the Winter as well. It's actually quite surreal wandering in the snow amongst trees of that size.

sunrise was fun this weekend, but the conditions weren't so great. it was hard packed snow, but as the day progressed the snow broke up. there were definitely some spots where trees & even a rock were coming out of the snow. i had fun though. it was a bright, sunshiney day the glen livet flask sure helped keep me going. we got there when they opened and i was definitely too tired for night skiing by the end. i'm ready to go again!!!

Great pics! Looks like you had a lot of fun. It's very interesting though looking at pictures of other hills around the world.

I hit up Sunshine yesterday and couldn't have asked for a better day. Incredible conditions! About 1℃ at the base and -8℃ at the top of the mountain. They had received 11cm of fresh snow the night before and it never quit while we were there. The powder is some parts were waste deep. Which of course, I got stuck in. All the videos and pictures are on my girlfriends camera, so I'll post those soon.

holy shit that sounds cold, but sounds like you had excellent snow. i'm trying to convince my man to go somewhere outta state like denver or portland. i hate driving 4 hours to a mountain that is hit or miss. sunrise is definitely the best mountain in the state, but the conditions aren't always great and the run that connects the two mountains is a fucking flat little bitch that wears me out.

Looks like fun, Ivy! I miss going to Sunrise. We used to ski on occasion growing up, but I never pursued skiing on my own.

some of them are long. the cyclone mountain on the right of the trail map below is the best side. not just for runs, but there's far less people to contend with over there. we're prolly going to go back next month when they offer night skiing again. phoenician & young girl are prolly my favourites

Can't decide whether to really commit to skiing. I love the rush you get, but the idea that I'm risking an ACL tear and a year on crutches in pursuit of that feeling - it just feels kind of dumb. Psychedelics seem a lot safer.

I haven't done anything winter related this whole year. I had a season pass to Mountain High here in Sourthern California for 3 years prior to this year, and then I realized just how much it sucks most of the year.

Just a taste. I hope to put the rest in a movie...

The Yellowstone club in MT near Big Sky. 7 days of riding and nights of drinking. on the sixth day, we got in 36k vertical feet on 17 runs in 7 inches of fresh powder.

The last three days at Mammoth have been the best ski days of my life. Five feet of the softest, dryest powder. Fresh stuff available every day. Sorry no pics.

I got to stand in 25 min lift lines with every asshole and their mom from Texas, Kansas, Seattle and NY. Even did shots on the chairlift with a couple Aussies. It was fun meeting new people I just wish they would go to Tahoe.

I need to move to Big Sky. That looks like a blast up at the Yellowstone club.

Friday was really the first day the weather cleared up at Mammoth. After 3 feet of Fresh, they were still unable to open the top, but started dynamite blasting mid-day. No crowds. We found untouched powder through the trees on the South Side all day just waiting for cloud nine to open up. It did just after one and we were the first up. We did a few laps on nine the rest of the afternoon in fresh waist-high powder.

Another two and a half feet fell between the time lifts closed on Friday and opened on Saturday. Same story, but no top. Plenty of fresh to be found though on the lower half and around 22 and 5.

Sunday was blue bird all around and the entire mountain was open. We headed straight for 23 and hung out around there and the backside all day. Most crowded on Sunday, but still a lot of mountain to be had for the first time.
