That Brown - Backes - Callahan line is going to be great to watch.

I'm not sure how I feel about Quick playing in Sochi. I'm sure he'd do great things for team USA, but with his injury I just kind of worry about him re-aggravating it and missing more time with the Kings.

I'm willing to bet team USA doesn't even medal this year. Not having Bobby Ryan, Kyle Okposo, Jason Pomminville, Keith Yandle and Ben Bishop on the roster is a huge fail. Could've subbed out Wheeler, Stepan/Callahan, TJ Oshie, Orpik/Martin or Howard for the guys I mentioned.

If little old SLC pulled it off, surely Putin can. Especially when he doesn't have to worry about procedural difficulties like democracy and budgets.

It's not that, it's... well... Olbermann puts it best.

The reports coming in from Sochi have been amazing. I particularly like the stray dogs everywhere; I'm sincerely happy that the private exterminators are matching the contractors in incompetence.

I like that the ones left have been comfirmed by Russia as the hardest to catch. But it's clear they just killed the ugly suffering ones, because the death cull aside, those left are some healthy looking strays .

Erm, beauty? That brut aint no Johnny Weir (fyi: Johnny was doing color commentary for the European Figure Skating Championships telecast last month). As always, most looking forward to:

Figure Skating (Mens, Womens, Pairs...there is nothing better then lighting a fire, pouring a glass of wine, and watching/hearing the long program with all it's elegance and grace)

Will watch some: Snowboarding, Freestyle Skiing

May watch for a bit if on: Luge/Skeleton/Bobsled, Biathalon

Don’t watch: speedskating, curling, hockey, Cross Country
The pilgrimage is not perfected save by copulation with the camel.

So Shaun white is out of slopestyles big Olympic premier because the course is too much, even after adjustments have been made. Several others have been injured on practice runs. Great job, Russia.

Our neighbor is over there for work. Had to take out a special insurance policy and hire his own private security due to terrorist threats. Several others in his company backed out once the black widow terrorist threats became prominent.

    Wow.

Richard Engel reported last night on NBC that all visitors to the Sochi Olympics are getting hacked as soon as their electronic devices connect to any Russian network:

"As tourists and families of athletes arrive in Sochi, if they haven't been warned, and if they fire up their phones at baggage claim, it's probably too late to save the integrity of their electronics and everything inside them. Visitors to Russia can expect to be hacked. And as Richard Engel found out upon his arrival there, it's not a matter of if, but when," reports NBC's Brian Williams.
Engel says, "The State Department warns that travelers should have no expectation of privacy. Even in their hotel rooms. And as we found out, you are especially exposed as soon as you try and communicate with anything."
"One of the first thing visitors to Russia will do is log on," says Engel. "Hackers here are counting on it."
They test the system in the report -- and are, as one might expect, immediately hacked the moment the test computer connects with the Russian network.
"Malicious software hijacked our phone before we even finished our coffee, stealing my information, and giving hackers the option to tap and record my phone calls."

wow, Sochi is a mess. I'd heard of a lot of the problems, but that Olbermann video and the Richard Engel report are crazy.

Damn. You'd think with their 50B budget, that some of these things wouldn't be an issue.

I mean, I doubt most of that budget made it in any meaningful way towards tangible targets.

toilets, ok, hotels, ok, hacking, ok, water, ok, dogs ok.

    But now a yogurt blockade.

It was only a matter of time before two of the world’s superpowers clashed over a protein-rich dairy product.

The Russian government is said to be blocking a shipment of Chobani yogurt from reaching the United States Olympic team at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The blockade has prompted alarm from the yogurt industry’s political allies, who are outraged that American athletes could be deprived of their beloved Greek yogurt.

The Russian government, according to United States officials, is not permitting the yogurt to enter Russia without a special certification.

At first a breakfast-table squabble, the dairy situation is quickly escalating.

The Obama administration has intervened, seeking to clear the way for the yogurt delivery. A United States senator fired off a stern letter to the Russian ambassador, asking for his assistance.

American officials are hoping to receive a special dispensation from the Russian agency Rosselkhoznadzor – the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance — whose jurisdiction apparently includes American-made Greek yogurt.

Yogurt production is a booming business in upstate New York, a place that does not have many booming businesses. The state’s politicians have been eager to promote the industry.

In this case, Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, is taking up the cause.

“There is simply no time to waste in getting our Olympic athletes a nutritious and delicious food,” Mr. Schumer said in a statement.

Asking for the blockade to be lifted, Mr. Schumer added that when it comes to yogurt, “The Russian authorities should get past ‘nyet.'”

Chobani is the official yogurt of the United States Olympic team, and in the run-up to Sochi, its products were made available to athletes at Olympic training centers in the United States.

For the Olympics, the company had planned to send single-serve cups of blueberry, strawberry and peach yogurt, along with larger containers of plain yogurt that can be used to make smoothies.

The yogurt in question is presently being stored in a temperature-controlled facility near Newark Liberty International Airport, awaiting a green light from Russian officials.

In a statement, Chobani said it was grateful for Mr. Schumer’s intervention.

“This is a time when the focus should be on our athletes,” the company said, “so we’re just trying to do right by them in getting food they enjoy from home.”

There was no immediate word on Wednesday about the fate of the yogurt. Mr. Schumer’s office said the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, had not responded to his letter, and the Russian embassy in Washington did not return a phone message.
