Tuesday in SF, the Fri/Sunday at Coachella. I wonder if there is a Nick gig hiding somewhere for either band.

This song they're playing right now is fucking awesome. Think it's "Jack the Ripper"? I know what I'm doing with this month's eMusic balance.

Whilst on the news of tonight's live streamed performance, let's all take a second (44 minutes) to watch this amazing Nick Cave concert in full, HD, from 1994.

    8/22 Slint @ El Rey
    8/23-8/24 FYF Fest
    9/11 Swans @ The Roxy

Watching the stream from last night. Fucking world class, man. I hope they pull out all the stops for Coachella with the choir and strings and all. If not, I'm sure it will still be amazing.

I could do without the kids choir, it was appropiate for O Children but ehh the rest I'd rather just see Nick and company. The strings though, yes they were amazing, along with Warren's awesome conducting.

Agree with this 100%. Warren conducting during From Her To Eternity was priceless.

That was one of the best renditions I've ever seen! When he was doing the parts for the violins to rise and fall..fantastic.

So if they're on the main stage, the guess is they'd immediately precede Red Hot Chili Peppers, yeah? That's going to suck; I remember how obnoxious the RHCP fans were shoving around during Arcade Fire in '07.

Last night was truly an Awesome experience! The performance of Push the Sky Away was stunning. The build up near the end of Jubilee St. was outstanding, as was them playing Higgs Bosom Blues. I really love the flow of the album, and it seemed to flow even better live. And of course, the classics performed after the new album were all Amazing. I met up with theScenestar in line prior to the show, and we ended up having the 1st row Balcony, dead center! I thought the kiddie choir worked out great in a lot of the new songs. I'm currently enjoying the re-broadcast of last night which will be available until 2PM GMT on 23rd February:

I can't wait for April to come so I can see these dudes again!!

Alright so... I was the person who was RIGHT in the center on the rail for the LA show and goddamn if that girl next to me recording every song on her iphone wasn't annoying. Also, Nick had the courtesy of stepping on my fingers a few times throughout the show to give me a little reminder the next morning

Those of you seeing Nick Cave this spring are in for a real treat, especially if you're seeing him in one of his non-festival shows where he can stretch out a little. Saw him in Nashville, TN Saturday night; it's easily one of the best shows I've seen. He started with four songs from Push the Sky Away – quiet, relatively sedate (the chaotic end of "Jubilee Street" notwithstanding), with the audience politely seated. Then the opening bars of "From Her to Eternity" hit, and the place just exploded. The intensity of the rest of the show was absolutely nutso, building and building through a bunch of his older songs to an epic version of "Stagger Lee." I've seen Cave four times previously, and this was the most "on" I've seen him, prowling the stage, interacting with the audience, howling and shrieking in best Birthday Party style. He's hitting new heights, so this is a good time to see him.

    Setlist:

    We No Who U R
    Jubilee Street
    Wide Lovely Eyes
    Higgs Boson Blues
    From Her to Eternity
    Red Right Hand
    Stranger Than Kindness
    Jack the Ripper
    Deanna
    Your Funeral, My Trial
    God Is in the House
    The Weeping Song
    The Mercy Seat
    Stagger Lee
    ***
    Tupelo
    Push the Sky Away

As a side note, if any of you ever have a chance to see a show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, do it. It dates back to 1891 and was the original home of the Grand Ole Opry. Probably the best venue I've ever been to. Atmosphere, acoustics, layout – just about perfect in every way.

So I just listened to the new album and I found it pretty damn accessible. This coming from someone who basically forgets what Nick Cave sounds like after only giving his music a cursory listen in college. But yeah, I dig this album.

I know I could just look this up myself but is there a Nick Cave "best of" or a good summary of his career? I have some random tracks in my library but would prefer not listening through his entire discog at this point. Just something to prep me for his set.

There is not a best of.

But roberto just posted a recent setlist and it was similar to the LA show that was streamed (except that the LA show had all of the new album). So I'd say that setlist a good place to start. It is a good selection of their best/most popular songs and you can expect to hear something like that set (adjusted for time available).

Tour statistics are available, though note that this includes shows from Europe and Australia and a bunch of Don't Look Back style shows. And that via the post-SXSW dates the setlists have coalecesed into something along the lines of that show in Nashville.

    Rank/Song/Play count

    1 Stagger Lee 23
    Jubilee Street 23
    Deanna 23
    From Her to Eternity 23
    Jack the Ripper 23
    The Mercy Seat 23
    7 Higgs Boson Blues 22
    Push the Sky Away 22
    We No Who U R 22
    Red Right Hand 22
    Wide Lovely Eyes 22
12 Your Funeral... My Trial 15
    Love Letter 15
    14 Tupelo 13
