    I saw Bloc Party @ the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas right after Silent Alarm came out. I don't remember being blown away, but I also don't remember wanting to throw things at them, either. I don't really care about seeing them again, but I haven't figured out the crazy hatred for them on this board. They must have been truly terrible at Coachella.

    For argument's sake, *why* do you think they're an awful live band? Is it musicianship or showmanship? Again, I didn't think they were fantastic, but I wouldn't classify them as awful. More like "meh". They did a decent job reproducing their record, but it wasn't an especially interesting show.

    That's certainly a valid reason. I never bothered with anything after Silent Alarm, and I only have about half the songs from that record on my ipod. It just drives me crazy when people say how terrible a band is without ever saying WHY. Granted, there are plenty of bands that don't need validation for the hatred heaped upon them, but I always thought Bloc Party was mediocre rather than horrible.

    Flaming Lips were kind of disappointing in 04 though. Started late, ended early, and Wayne spent a lot of time yapping to the crowd. I think they played maybe 5 songs.

    the spectacle was cool though.

    Things have changed since '04. If The Flaming Lips played Coachella again they would most certainly be headliners. It wouldn't even be worth the time to set up the UFO to play a one hour set. Their set at Sasquatch this year rivaled anything I saw at Coachella, and they played for close to 2 hours. Plus, for anyone still holding their breath for Led Zeppelin playing in '09, The Lips' cover of "The Song Remains the Same" with naked backup dancers would be a close second, and far more realistic.
