Meant? What a ridiculous notion... If music is finished and ready, the only reason it's held back is marketing or distribution. Meant to be released? you act as if the band is waiting for stars to align in a particular manner, or for the moons gravity to provide a more pleasant first listening experience...
You had a long day didn't you Jared? It just might be Knob Creek time...
Also, how in fuck's name can anybody hate album leaks? What did album leaks ever do to you besides provide you with free music before it was actually released?
So AC is playing one of my favorite venues in Chicago in January. I'm actually thinking of going just to see what everyone's fuss is about them. Which one album of theirs do I need to get? I know I've bashed them left and right, but you guys typically have very good taste, so I'm willing to give them a second try.
Convince me to get a ticket, kitt kat. Without the use of caps lock, if possible.
Merriweather isn't out yet, but I would tell everyone to start with that once it comes out.
Depending on your music taste....It's hard to tell you where to start. I hate to push Strawberry Jam because it's a bit different from the angle they've taken now.
So, I would start with the YouTube bootleg videos/mp3s from Hove in Norway. Watch "My Girls", "Brothersport" and "Summertime Clothes."
Then, listen to the albums in this order...
Strawberry Jam > Sung Tongs > Feels
(I only have Feels last because, even though it's been called their 'opus', it's still very hard for most people to digest.)
Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'll get both Strawberry Jam and Sung Tongs. We just got a bunch of snow/ice and it's like 3 degrees out, so I have a weekend of nothing but exploring new music, and AC seems a good place to start.
JOOOOOOOOOSH DOOOOOOON'T!!!!!

Its highly anticipated album "Merriweather Post Pavilion" won't hit stores until early next year, but experimental rock act Animal Collective is already planning a return to the studio.
Founding member Dave Portner describes the project as "visual record. The lines were really blurry when we started," he tells Billboard.com. "It was going to be a film, like a feature film, but by no means a narrative. It's more collaborative, between us and our friend Danny Perez, who did one of our music videos."
Portner says Perez has been working on the visuals for the as-yet-untitled project for more than two years, and that the band will be providing the accompanying music. "This year, we got to a place where we can start doing demos and nailing all the sounds down, while we're at home," Portner explains. "It's something new for all of us. It's been a work-as-we-go process."
Animal Collective will take to the road in January around the launch of "Merriweather Post Pavilion," due Jan. 20 via Domino. After seven European dates, the band will play New York, Chicago and Los Angeles on Jan. 20, 22 and 23, respectively.

I'm a little late to butt in, but I really think of Feels as the best place to start. But someone described it as a hard to digest, which I found interesting, because I thought of it as their most accessible. Strawberry Jam, on the other hand, seems very difficult in relation to their previous records. Not that it's not a pop record, it's just so noisy compared to the other too.
But Feels was my first, and of course I didn't like it when I heard it. It was only later that I made it to Sung Tongs, and then once it came out, Strawberry Jam. So I'm thinking you guys are right actually. Start with S.J.
Or better yet, because I can already tell it will be better than the other three... just wait for MPP to leak! That's the best place to start!
So whats up with a show at the Bowery now? That should be interesting.
The day an album is released hardly means anything anymore. Nobody is ever anticipating such and such date to hear the new _____ album because most likely its leaked all over the internet by now. That was one of the great things about In Rainbows it was a release date that everybody cared about.

The White Stripes 9/18
Alright, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been mentioned yet, but surely some of you are in the know... Animal Collective added an LA date at the Troubadour on Saturday, the day after the Henry Fonda Music Box show. And I would KILL to get into this. Has anyone gotten tickets already? I guess there's a way to get in if you're on C.A., for which I tried making an account but it's closed... maybe if I'm lucky I'll score a ticket with the public onsale. I can only pray. This is going to be really amazing.
If any of you guys know a presale password... ummm... I will give you a big hug & kiss if you share.![]()
me too please!!!!!!!! come on Katt!
