Where do most of you guys get your frames from? I've gone to aaron bros and they always want a ridiculous price, like over $100.
I don't want anything fancy for my show posters, just plain black borders

I get mine at Michael's generally. The frames themselves are pricey... but they're always running discounts of like 40% (at least the one here).

This is the absolute cheapest I have found.

    http://www.frameusa.com/

I have ordered batch orders a couple time,s and one of them they fucked up, but they have good service. Made in Ohio and a micro-fraction of what you'll pay anywhere. I do recommend buying in bulk to offset shipping, though shipping is very reasonable.

Not sure how prices comp out, but I have been using americanframe.com for years and have been nothing but happy.

What about the frames off the shelf at Aaron bros? I'm sure they have the plane black moulding you want, tend to always have class, and they always have a 50% coupon running if not better. Right now they have the buy one get one for a penny sale going! Custom framing should be for stuff that truelly demands it for archival purposes and to essentuate the art itself. Most gig posters are standard sizes like 18x24 etc you should just be able to buy no problem. Perhaps consider swapping out the backing with acid free foam core but that's cheap too

For online I use frame destination. I like the level of control and their prices. Great online support too if you contact them for something more intricate.

But mostly become from friends with your local framer. 1)support them 2) they will give you good deals for superior work once you get to know them. Sometimes I ask if they have any scrap materials from previous jobs and make a frame from that; super cheap.

Thanks for the info, guys. I found this on the Ikea site if anyone is interested in this size. Only $5. Available at my closest one (costa mesa), not sure about LA

Cutter, I have found many posters are not standard sizes. Almost always seem to be decimals involved in posters I buy at shows.

Guess it's all luck of the draw. The big collectors say you should be matting everything anyways to keep it nice forever so it shouldn't matter... But yeah, the custom ones can be very random. Emek is the worst at this. Arbitrary border sizes to make it non-standard.

Do custom sizes increase the price dramatically. I have one that is 24 x 36" and Michaels usually charges like $100 for a custom job.

yah, i have only one poster that's a standard 18x24 and the rest are all really random sizes. Buying in bulk from that site wouldn't work but their single prices arent bad at all

You can get get pretty nice custom frames from that site I posted starting at something like $17 depending on size FYI. I have had one made and have priced several more. Not as dirt cheap as the common sizes, but much less expensive than other options.

I usually get two prints framed, with uv glass for that price. Support your independent framers.....

For non-standard sizes, the most economical (and permanent) route is to get the poster mounted and laminated. The downside is the hit you take on the re-sale value, which doesn't concern me, so it's a viable alternative to a custom glass and frame job.

24" x 36" is a standard poster size you can find pre-made versions of anywhere.

So they'll have a portion of this Jermaine Rogers print at a bunch of the upcoming gigs for Soundgarden/NIN. Its 20x30", and he will also have some special variants of his own later on.
