we were in town for APW and I wanted to check it out so we went and loved it so much that we ended up staying until they kicked us out so they could close! Your avatar, Theologue, was HUGE (maybe 18 feet wide and 6 feet tall) and was a centerpiece of the exhibit. Vibrant is a good word for Grey's art in person.. it's all so detailed and beautiful. My favorite part was the Sacred Mirrors of course, but Cosmic Christ was pretty great. My wife never cared for Alex Grey until she saw CoSM and now she loves his stuff. Supposedly, they are closing soon and moving out of Chelsea so go while you can!

Sooooooooo jealous!! They are closing this month I thinkEverything is moving to Chelsea with them and the new place looks like it's going to be pretty amazing. I'm going to try and get up there in July of 09. If not I will definitely go to his next Lecture/Live painting in LA. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm glad your wife is now a fan!! ~spiral out~
Jesus. I guess we should've gone then. Our friend told us to go, but we were lazy and too unfamiliar with transport to risk it.

Custom framing BLOWS. Even with the Michaels 50% custom framing coupon, my AC poster still cost $70 to be framed in the plainest, most boring black frame. That one my Of Montreal one is in is slightly bigger than the poster (see the tiny white edges if you look really close at the first picture) but the frame is wood, looks a lot prettier than the custom frame...and only cost $20.
Custom framing is way too expensive. However, a lot of the posters I want framed are really weird sizes. Oh, the dilemma.
^ Yeah. That's why I went custom for the AC poster. It was something like 11 x 17 6/13" (???!!!)
The poster I was referring to is 40" X 59" so custom is the only way I could go, but I agree for the most part...you can buy a 50% off frame at Michaels, acid-free backing and some spacers for a quarter of what you pay for custom. Although, if the print is valuable or you plan to keep it for a very long time, a nice custom frame with museum glass to prevent fading is worth it.

you can do custom matting with a standard frame...its still not cheap though. I had to get daft punks alive 2007 poster custom framed but I used a cheap metal frame so it was about $150. Looks good though...can't find an image of it though. Its a large poster that I bought at vegoose when they played.
been a while since ive been on the board to check up on this thread. the hot chip poster 2 pages ago is great. its driving me to see if there was one i missed for the show they just played here a while back. of montreal looks great with your cat too!

I have the one from a couple nights later in San Diego...
Also, I know I am the only crazy human around here who likes the Mars Volta, but they really do have the coolest fucking posters... I bought this one for a couple nights later at Open Air Theatre, it's still up on my wall because I love it so:

Also, I don't think I ever posted this, Animal Collective & Grouper in Big Sur...
Unfortunately all I could take was this super crumby photo, it looks almost nothing like this in person... the colors just came out super weird in the picture
In reality the colors are very strong red, blues and yellows.
