    You're missing a bunch.

breaks, dubstep, pystrance, tech-house, idm, minimal techno for starters.

almost agree with you. those can all be considered sub-genres except maybe breaks and dub-step can probably go under that.

stadium/epic Trance and psytrance have almost nothing in common. There are tons of people out there who love psytrance but hate Tiesto style epic trance. I'd say IDM and Ambient are two totally different genres too. When I think of Ambient I think beatless soundscapes like Tangerine Dream, Vangellis, FSOL's lifeforms etc. IDM on the other hand is generally a lot more beat oriented even if those beats are abstract. I'd say Trip-Hop is almost a sub genre of IDM than IDM a sub genre of Ambient.

I never payed attention to the then IDM sub genre. Ive always hated subs, they just cloud everything up. but considering what ive recently read, i would have to agree that IDM could be its own genre.

IDM and techno were going on at the same time pretty much. A lot of it was all regional. I grew up in Dallas which had a huge early hardcore breakbeat/very early jungle scene in the late 80s/early 90s. When I was in High School (yea I'm old) EDM was stuff like Prodigy circa 1991. Richie Hawtin was putting out would later be called Minimal under Plasticman and Hardcore under names like Cybersonik but that stuff wasn't played really in Dallas. Now I have a friend who is my age and grew up in Detroit and she went to all those Techno parties because that is what EDM was to her and that is what was played where she lived. San Fransisco had their own speacial form of pyschadelic house/progressive trance championed by people like the Hardkiss Brothers. Hell even early pystrance/goa was being done in the early 90s. I guess what I am trying to say is that really all of this music was going on at once.
