Places to eat in L.A.

i half live in england half the year, half in the U.S and the only place to take a lady in L.A is Katana, on sunset. fucking expensive though

get trashed in there, then off down to santa monica in the morning for a full english to recover!

Here are a couple of suggestions for Italian and Steaks fairly close to LAX

Encounters-This restaurant is actually on the grounds of LAX. Why waste time when you can just walk to this place? The food is good and the view is even better. You will not be rushed at this place.

Proud Bird-This restaurant is located on the edge of the run way of LAX. This place is expensive but it will fit within your budget. The food and the staff are good. Ask for a window seat so that you can view planes landing. My wife still flips out whenever a plane passes by. This place is best for wine choices.

Houstons-This restaurant is within a 1/2 mile of LAX. You can get both Italian and steaks at this place. Everything, everything is good. This place is proboly the best of the 4 for mixed drinks.

Il Fornaio-This place is within 15 miles of LAX. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. I mention this place because it's directly across the street from the Santa Monica Pier. I small walk after dinner holding hands would be a nice touch.

Encounters is excellent for a Jetsons-style martini when meeting someone at the airport. I'm not so sure about the food.

If you want to spend the money (about $40-$80) a plate I would highly reccomend Social Hollywood.

Ruth's Chris is good. I went there on my b day in 2005 and it was a good. Expensive of course. You could always go to Cheescake Factory since their menu is solid all around..

I cannot recommend any places in LA ... as for being at or near the festival for those staying off site ... we always hit up Las Casuelas in Palm Springs the night before the festival (Thursday this year, I guess) ... good food, better drinks, and a hefty tequila menu ...

I can't believe no one has said El Coyote on Beverly west of La Brea. A must for my out-of-town visitors. And the Farmers Market not far from there.

Zankou Chicken for the tarna sandwich plate, yum.

take thom thom's suggestion the lobster and boa are great!!! also for steak is Pacific Dining Car OPEN 24 hours!!!haha and Arnie Mortons is fantastic as well both are steak houses....for Italian..you can try farfalla in los feliz or palermos is way casual and southern italian style but one of my all time faves!
Not sure about high end Italian though...hmm...good luck
