Default Places to eat in L.A.

So this probably isnt the best time to post this (ie 2:40 in the morning) but...I am arriving in L.A. on the 26 of April and taking my girlfriend shopping and out to dinner for her birthday. She is then flying home on the morning of the 27 and I am driving to Empire Polo Club...anyway...does anyone have any recommendations as to where we could go to eat in L.A. i dont know where we are staying yet, but it will probably be ~20-30 miles away from LAX in any given direction. Also, I only want to spend around $175 - $200 for the entire meal.

    Thanks for your help.

Basically - the ONLY place to take someone for a meal in LA is the Pirates Dinner Adventure.

I've seen that place when I went to the Pofolks across the street and I can't imagine the food is anything to write home about, for that's to be expected from those dinner show places. Is it fun?

I don't really like fast food but whenver I come to Cali I love to eat In & Out Burger...sure to impress any date!

It's one of my guilty pleasures....well then I guess I should post it in the guilty pleasures thread.

There is an In N Out in Indio, too. I suggest stopping there on the way to the festival- it's a great hangover cure.

If you want amazing seafood go to "The Lobster" and if you want to have amazing Steak go to "BOA". Both of these places are down the street from eachother on Ocean Drive in Santa Monica. Keep in mind that dinner for two with dessert at both places will run you around $150-$200 but she will kiss your ass for the next few months for it.

For Italian, my vote would be either Angelini Osteria for a gourmet (but not over-priced) special occasion sort of dinner, or La Buca for more homestyle but still amazingly yummy Italian. Both are very small, so make reservations.

But then again, you probably don't want to be driving all over town stuck in traffic, so it really depends where you'll be staying.

Valentino on Pico Blvd. Santa Monica/West LA area. Italian food. Somewhat ritzy (make reservations) but it is definitely possible to have a gourmet three-course dinner for two there under $200.

and if you're looking for Japanese food, try my neighborhood, Sawtelle Blvd (between Olympic & Ohio). You can find restaurants of different price ranges there and the food is good - ramen, sushi, teriyaki, etc.....
