    tell me why it's so great. i listen to portishead, air, mobb deep, nas, rakim, thievery corporation, leftfield, motorhead, masta ace, dj shadow, and iron maiden. i listen to them because their music is raw, passionate, emotional, musically talented, thought out, provocative, and outright enjoyable. so what prompts you to listen to your music?

    I listen to music that strikes a chord in me. I don't know, you hear a sound and you either like it or you don't. I enjoy the music I listen to because its a collection of sounds that move me in one way or another. There is usually some kind of emotion connection with music for me too. Drugs don't hurt either...

    When I first started really getting into music as a teenager, I used to listen to music that sounded really mysterious and existential, like a lot of Smiths, Depeche Mode, NIN, Joy Division, and shoegazer music. I liked that the music made me "work" to understand it and appreciate it. The music I like now is not quite so depressing, but I still enjoy music that makes me work for it.

    It's a Coachella Message Board cliche', but my favorite band is Radiohead. That's because it is layered so well (ex. "Sit Down, Stand Up") and they have the ability to give me chills during most, if not all, of their songs. As Amy said, I like music that makes me work for it. Almost everytime I listen to a Radiohead song, I notice or focus on something different. I can listen to "Airbag" and focus on the bass the entire time and really enjoy the song. I can listen to "Optimistic" and just pay attention to the drums. Or I can pay attention to everything and just be totally blown away.

    Sorry for the trite Radiohead talk, but I can best explain why I like them more so than any of my other favorite bands. Those include My Morning Jacket, Rage, Tool, Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails.
