I think this recent episode definitely jumped the rail, but I don't get why you say that this season has jumped the rail. I think it's following the Dexter vs. the Other Serial Killer mold, which is my favorite thing for Dexter to do in a season. He's still trying to fit in with society, just like he always has, only instead of trying to do that by blending in with a family (something he's already accomplished), he is now trying to do that by investigating religion. Or he was doing that... Not sure where that will go without Brother Sam around... Otherwise, you still have the department racing against Dexter, in the midst of their drama. Seems completely on the rail to me.
Yeah, Maria is such a shitty person. And she's been especially horrible in this season... And yeah, Quinn's another one who has been annoying. I thought he would spend this season trying to confirm his suspicions on Dexter, not being a drunken asshole.
