Seriously, this show has really jumped the rail this season. Wtf with the pistola out the window action. Cheddar du jour. If they don't bounce back with a kickass conclusion, I'm done.

I think this recent episode definitely jumped the rail, but I don't get why you say that this season has jumped the rail. I think it's following the Dexter vs. the Other Serial Killer mold, which is my favorite thing for Dexter to do in a season. He's still trying to fit in with society, just like he always has, only instead of trying to do that by blending in with a family (something he's already accomplished), he is now trying to do that by investigating religion. Or he was doing that... Not sure where that will go without Brother Sam around... Otherwise, you still have the department racing against Dexter, in the midst of their drama. Seems completely on the rail to me.

Every time there is a scene with Maria it makes me roll my eyes. I can't stand her lecturing Deb anymore. I'm also glad Deb has moved on from Quinn.

Yeah, Maria is such a shitty person. And she's been especially horrible in this season... And yeah, Quinn's another one who has been annoying. I thought he would spend this season trying to confirm his suspicions on Dexter, not being a drunken asshole.

Okay, maybe you're right in that it hasn't (completely) jumped the shark. I guess my main point was that they're losing me. Too much "humanity" and not enough Dark Passenger.

I love the humanity. I love the personal inner conflict. Fleshing out each character a la Six Feet Under, although nowhere near as well.

For me, the personal inner conflict stuff just isn't clicking. Maybe it's the writing, maybe it's my high expectations (after 4-5 seasons of such high quality). But, it sounds like I am in the minority so I will do my best to try not to dampen the party going on here. Just please...no more shooting sprees. Dexter is a knife wielder, not a gunslinger.

Caught up on the last two episodes. I really dug that tableau with the Bowls of Wrath, and how Dexter showed anger for being covered in guts. It seems like we're about to get into the true race now - Dexter vs. Miami Metro... I just hope this isn't just another thing of Dexter catching the bad guy, putting him on his table, doing the slice, and then another period of peace. Travis should do some real damage. Or I hope that one of the Miami Metro people finds out Dexter's truth - NOT Quinn. Baptista or even Maria, which might open some tense possibilities (and also might force Dexter to kill her later, which I would not mind at all).

I enjoyed the episode a lot, but i didn't like the way they revealed that Gellar isn't real. Especially because the whole guy in a freezer that you still talk to thing was covered on Desperate Housewives a few years ago. I would have much rather them gone the Mrs. Bates route and we find Gellar as some partially rotted corpse that Travis has tried to preserve. Oh, and that shrink is bad news.

Who knows how long Gellar has been dead for though, that's what I'm stuck on. It's very possible Gellar was actually there at the start and was killed recently, we really have no idea yet. Maybe killing Travis' sister was going to far and he decided to kill him then. Who knows, but I can't wait to find out.

So after this season we only get 2 more seasons? That's a bummer, but every great show comes to an end before it just sarts sucking. I have faith this one will be a brilliant end, the people behind this show are just amazing.

Yeah, it was announced a couple of weeks ago that there were going to be 2 more seasons. I was a little skeptical until I read a quote similar to the one Lilia posted above about the writers/Dexter team realizing that the rest of the story had a two-season arc. I think they'll be able to pull it off! Can't wait to see how this season pans out...
