Alabama needs a festival...one that doesn't involve country and southern rock...but thats just because I live here.
No its fucking bullshit.
Outside Lands was a perfect example. Too many festivals that are being thrown together half assed. People want to capitalize on the current trend of destination festivals but half the time its a failure and waste of money. It hurts business because when people have a shitty time at a festival they are less likely to put forth the effort/money to go to another one.
There is an element of truth here. I'm not a fan of the headliners and bands in general getting diluted by picking and choosing which fests they'll play. Then if they play every fest it takes any special feeling out of the performance.
Coachella
The 'Roo
Lolla
ACL
Sasquatch
All solid, well run festivals that deserve to stay.
On another note, what festivals do ya'll think won't make it back next year?
Don't forget DEMF in Detroit and Ultra in Miami (as far as strictly-electronic festivals go).
And I pretty much lost all hope of Bang (miami) ever coming back.
I heard Vegoose is done as well...
Outsidelands is also done. So many bad reviews. I would also say that only Virgin Baltimore is coming back, all other virgin festivals are done.
I feel bad for the people who shelled out all that money to go to a fest like OSL without having experienced something like Coachella or Lolla. It would be awful for someone to get jaded on festivals because of a bad first experience.
seriously, my first festival experience was coachella 07 on saturday.
The shittiest festival I've been to was Rock The Bells '07 in SF. The set times were totally off all day and it was very apparent that they were using RATM as a cash grab. There was no money put into any kind of production to make the festival experience enjoyable or run smoothly outside of the music (but I guess that worked out because I just got blazed all day anyway).
Don't forget about All Points West...it was hugely successful and will be even better next year...had to be the best new festival by a wide margin.
07, 08, 09, 10, 12.1, 13.1
Coachella
Bonnaroo
Lolla
ACL
Sasquatch
V-Fest Baltimore
UMF
APW (sure why not)
Festival or not OUTSIDE LANDS is one helluva destination. I recomend, to everyone, to check out Golden Gate Park befor you die. The place is EPIC. I guess if you are from there you could take that place for granted but as a vacation destination that place is so inspiring. One of the greatest architectural environments in America. And in general SF kicks major ass.
One of my best friends went to Outside Lands. That was her first music festival experience. She sent me a text saying "This is awesome! Maybe you're on to something with this music festival shit." So apparently that wasn't a deal-breaker for her. I'm trying to talk her into going to Coachella with us next year. She's more open to it after attending Outside Lands.
And Sushov, my first music fest experience was also the Saturday of Coachella 2007. I've been hooked ever since. I've been to Vegoose, Street Scene, Lolla and Bonnaroo since then. Sbessio is right, Bonnaroo is something you HAVE to check out.
Too many festivals is a bad thing? The more music the better is what i say!
Fuck em, if they throw a shitty festival, it wont last. Survival of the fittest...at least people are putting them together these days, im sure some people had a good time.
If everyone stuck to the same ol shit, then HARD wouldn't have thrown a NYE party, and i wouldnt be having my fucking face melted on Halloween.
LONG LIVE THE FESTIVALS!
Oh, and i wouldnt be going to detour to see the incredibly diverse line up...from Gogol to Adam Freeland.
Kingsblend...dont let outsidelands ruin your hope for the future.
RTB was dissapointing despite the great line up. Too packed, too uncomfortable and just wasn't that fun, despite some great acts. Thank god I went to the San Fran one where the weather was nice.
I seriously would have died if I had to stand out in that hell hole Glen Helen all day
Then I will hold you down and spit her percolations all over you until you're as greasy as the day she regrets pushing your big fat ass out her big fat cunt.
I do need to get out to the Roo... but its right-smack in the middle of finals every year!!! A week later and I'd be golden.
I know I wasn't there but I'm still not considering APW a "success" just quite yet. Let's see how it fares next year
Finals in June? Wickity Whack! Fuck school.....but thats always been my motto (which is why I'm soooo far away from completion heehee)
