Apparently Albarn wants to do a new album.

they did. they did an entire european tour and a US tour. I didn't manage to catch that one. :-( from what I've seen, it didn't look as pretty as the demon days shows. they all performed behind a screen, not in front of colored light panels. and the visuals, from what I've seen, were so-so. sounded great though, from the recordings I've heard.
they also didn't have their collaborators performing on the phase one tour. they had phy life cypher doing rap duties on the european leg, and jamal grey taking their place on the US tour. I have never heard of either of those people outside of gorillaz.
thanks, but we heard. that's what sparked most of this discussion.
bumpity bump.
upcoming
Bjork doing Biophilia, 6/2 Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA
Outside Lands, 8/9-11 Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA
--almost, almost, almost the real thing
It just seems like it would be so lackluster to me. I'm not a huge fan of the animation style the "band" is drawn in.
I think they performed Latin Simone, didn't they?
Either way, I think Demon Days >>>>> s/t
yes, they played Latin Simone during the encore as a tribute to the singer of that song who had recently died.
I was really hoping they'd do their version of Clint Eastwood with De La Soul and Bootie Brown. they were all there for christ's sake, there was no excuse to not do it.
I'm thinking more 2010. If Damon actually DOES finish another Gorillaz album (which I hope for but kinda doubt), that's when it'll be ready. He probably wouldn't do the Demon Days live thing again.
I just got the Demon Days dvd the other day. Its pretty badass.
Edit: LOL at Shaun Ryder. The dude is a natural performer ha
To be honest, the only thing I know about De La Soul is that he/they do the rap on Feel Good Inc. So, up until right now, I didn't know they were, in fact, a "they."
When Gorillaz performed material off of the first album... who did Del's part live? Or did they actually get Del to come along to their shows with them.
I saw him at Bumbershoot a few weeks ago. He was reeeeeeeeally high. He kept his glasses on the whole performance. Well, the first 25 minutes or so. Battles were conflicting with his set... and even though I was seeing Battles the next night too, I just couldn't resist seeing Battles. Del was alright. Nothing amazing though. Unlike Battles who destroyed the place. Apparently Del ended his set with Clint Eastwood...which I REALLY wish I could have heard. But missing Battles set just to hear his cover of Clint Eastwood just wasn't worth it to me.
When Del performed at Coachella in 2004...he was high and getting upset that the crowd wasn't getting into it...despite the fact that it was 100 degrees and he could barely stand...I have really hated him since then.
there are many versions of Clint Eastwood. the album version had rap by Del. when they went on tour in europe for the first album they had Phi Life Cypher doing the rap. this version was released on the G-Sides cd. On the US phase one tour they had Jamal Grey doing the rap. at the time they did a one-off for an awards show on MTV Asia that had a mandarin rapper I don't know the name of. and around the time Demon Days was released they did a live (in studio) performance for Radio One that had De La Soul and Bootie Brown rapping. each version has entirely original rap, nobdoy tries to reproduce Del's words.
Frozen Pilgrim, I hope you weren't referring to me in that post. if so, shame on you.
if anyone wants mp3s PM me.
Ohhhhhh right! I saw the Gorillaz performance on an MTV awards show of some sorts. I was disgusted by whoever was rapping. It wasn't the rappers actually... it was the lack of Del's words. I don't even consider Clint Eastwood "Clint Eastwood" without the words of Del. I know the words to that song backwards and forwards and to hear someone change them is unacceptable to me. I don't care who the rapper is... I just want them to rap the same words Del does. Finally someone let me outta my cage. But time for me is nothing cuz Im countin' no age.
gorillaz would be okay if they played forth from last or so on the main-stage
-theyre just not headliner material-i wanna see kool keith for 09!
