    Default Gorillaz for Coachella '09

I rewatched the Demon Days DVD recently and, well, I just need to see a Gorillaz performance at the Polo Fields this year. It's been widely discussed that a Gorillaz --> Outkast combo would be beyond amazing (and it would), but I think it's time to separate the two and put some focus on Gorillaz to keep up with the Outkast chatter.

Damon has got to be in the Gorillaz mindset with that Monkey: Journey to the West project, so I think it's at least within the realm of possibility. Make it happen, GV!

    What say you, message board?

no. if it was going to happen, it would have happened in 2006, when gorillaz were active. they haven't been active for two years. there's some film project, and there's a gorillaz sound system project that nobody really knows anything about at the moment. but nothing like the demon days live shows. that's over.

That could be a fantastic performance...Now if they could just get Lou Reed to open for David Bowie, and Outkast that would make my weekend.

Gorillaz headlining a night would be wholly acceptable.

Didn't one of the group members have some legal trouble in the past few years? Jail time?

    people keep saying 'gorillaz'.

    WHICH gorillaz?
every song is a different lineup.

    I'd love to see everyone.
every song off of both main studio albums. roger waters style- in front of a monolithic screen with cartoons of everyone. they could even perform behind black mesh if damon wants to. I just want to hear those songs over the main stage sound system.

that's a bit of an exaggeration. but there is a lack of a core group. Damon & Jamie are the only consistencies, as far as I know. perhaps there are a few others.

jamie wasn't a constant on the second album.
at any rate, thinking about it, I'd love to see damon take the good the bad and the queen, bring them back, and then have them start doing gorillaz songs. if ANYONE can get the deep-as-fuck bass tones off the first two gorillaz albums just right, it's paul simonon

if by "wasn't a constant" you mean he didn't do all the artwork single handedly, then you're right. I don't think he did it single handedly for the first album either.

if you mean he didn't participate, then you're wrong. he's always been involved.

the music was damon and dan the automator for the first disc and danger mouse was his main creative associate for the second one.

yeah. I mean jamie wasn't as involved in the conceptual stuff on the songs. it was less 'their' pet project at that stage.
I'd love tGtBatQ, with dan the automator, del the funky homosapien, and danger mouse all there. a hybrid tGtBatQ/Gorillaz set.

eh... until Gorillaz has new material, I don't see the point of anyone trying to do a Gorillaz performance. the best we're going to get is a Deltron performance when that new album is out. (is that still on the cards?) though I've heard that Del does Clint Eastwood at some of his solo shows.

muse's recent dvd is also worthwhile.

and the flaming lips' "ufos at the zoo" captures every bit of magnificence they create in their live show.

to be one hundred percent honest, I really prefer the album.
it's just... not as perfect as I'd hoped, y'know?
if you've got twenty bucks for a concert dvd, if you don't yet own the david gilmour: remember that night dvd, it's totally worth it. so so so amazing, and such an unbelievable lineup of guests.

really? I dunno maybe it's a canadian thing, but every single person I know has heard of the gorillaz. my parents, my friends parents, ex teachers, homeless people, bus drivers, airport baggage handlers, doctors, lawyers, CBC employees... fucking EVERYONE.
and what's even more interesting is not one of them has ever specifically disliked them. the worst reaction the gorillaz ever receive from an individual is indifference.
anyways. I'm alll for gorillaz in 09
