I vacationed in Kelowna last year. Best vacation I've ever had. I love Canada.
Kelowna eh?? What the hell did you do there...play golf??? I live an hour from there.... Very older richer inclined place
I used to be really good at Curling. Curling, Joining Broken Social Scene and Hockey. That's what Canadians do isn't it?
How much of a culture shock would it be for someone whos never been to Canada be?
I rly wanna go to Vancouver some time...
From where, the US? Not really sure. What I notice going to the states is that everything looks like it does on TV, but then you probably don't watch Canadian shows. I'm sure the culture shock is less than you would experience going basically anyplace else, however.
Vancouver feels a lot like San Fran, if you replaced all the black people and mexicans with asians and east indians.
So turns out I'm going to be in Calgary from Monday 4/12 to Thursday 4/15 (thankfully i'm back early on Thursday so I can drive my ass to Coachella, woohoo). Anything I should see while I'm there?
Calgary is sort of a shithole. Rent a car and drive out to Kananaskis or Bragg Creek (buy a map) and go hiking. Skip the town of Banff, its a busy tourist trap. Canmore is better to wander around.
Its chilly in the mountains. Dress warm!
Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately it's a work thing, i'm traveling up on Monday night, all day meetings Tuesday/Wednesday, and traveling back early Thursday. If I'm able to do, will have to be Tuesday evening or Wednesday evening. Not even a cool bar in the area?
Go down to 17th ave south. The Ship N Anchor is always good.
Kensington is a cool area. It has some neat bars, shops, and restaurants. Bernard Callebaut has a shop there and if you like chocolate AT ALL you should stop by. Though there are other locations around too.
That's not a Canada Goose.
Yeah, that's obvious.
Jebus, ur right, Calgary is a shithole. Well...not a total shithole, but definitely lacking in stuff to do. i asked several people in the building i was working in and they all pointed me to the casino. WTF? i'm in downtown, there's like 2 gay bars, and one wasn't even open last night. ate at Palomino's across the street from my hotel. okay BBQ considering it's not even in the US and had a drink at a random place on 8th st, which was a cool restaurant in an old bank building.
headed down to 17th street to check out the Ship and Anchor. i found a copy of the FFWD (looks like the Calgary version of LA Weekly) and i see there's lots more bars in that area and an American Apparel, so i'm guessing this is the hipster area of Calgary?
music choices there seemed to be a lot of local stuff, but I JUST missed Angels & Airwaves/Say Anything on Monday and HIM on Tuesday![]()
i might just end up going to the casino if i don't find anything else interesting.
Woo!! ended finding Congorock spinning at Robot Rock at The Habitat. Met some great people and danced till 2am. Was a cool pre-coachella vibe considering the opening DJ (DJ Reece) was coming down for coachella the next morning. Headed over to to polo fields now.
