This week, for whatever reason, I've been greatly enjoying the Megaman boss-stage stylings of Crystal Castles' Magic Spells, and would like suggestions for more along the same lines.

Questions regarding my taste in this matter are unwelcome.

HORSE THE BAND uses a lot of 8 bit keyboards mixed with a full band and lots of screaming and are often referred to as Nintendocore. They have lots of songs specifically about Nintendo characters, have covered the original Ninja Turtles theme song, and have a song about emo manatees called "manaTEEN"

    They're pretty great

    Check out BIRDO

Despite not having listened to a note from this record yet, P4K's latest bestowing of its Best New Music title on the jj album has got me all excited. The words "Gothenberg, Sweden" and "pop" in its review was enough to pique my interest. Anyone with any feedback on this album?

Okay, I'm in a melancholy humour, and as you can see, all this melancholy music I like so much is only aggravating the problem.

I need some good upbeat choons that will swiftly kick me out of this funk. Suggestions.

Did anyone see Passion Pit on Fallon last night?

I've never seen them in person, but it looks like they might have been a little restrained. Could've been better I think.

I saw it. The lead singer just ruins the band for me. The energy output on the album is not equal to what I would expect live. He just wanders in circles, and 2 steps forward 2 steps back. He needs to develop a coke habit.

yeah...i think that's what was missing.

this is my problem with keyboardists...they just kind of move up and down...the keyboardist in my old band would pick the thing up and carry it around on stage twiddling knobs and pressing keys...that was entertaining...though most people thought it was weird

The Decemberists will play a sold-out pre-Lollapalooza show at The Metro in Chicago next Thursday, August 6. To keep things lively, the evening's setlist will be "By Request", as selected by you, our fans. That's right - we invite you to have your way with us. As you can see on the Request page http://decemberists.com/byrequest/ , we've employed a highly scientific polling mechanism to solicit your favorite songs. Vote for as many songs as you like from the repertoire - we'll take the results and come up with a semi-coherent order based on what you choose. Even if you do not have tickets to the show, you can still experience the exhilarating sense of control that comes with punching your digital chad. The request period closes Monday night at the stroke of 12 ET.

i actually listened to the Decemberists properly for the first time last week, specifically "the Crane Wife" all the way through. WOW what a fucking amazing record. Why had I never listened to this band before?

Hazards of Love is awesome by the way. If you liked the Crane Wife, then HOL is right up your alley. A lot of early Decemberists fans seem to not like the last two albums.

    Sure thing.

I recommend trying out Hazards of Love, then Picaresque. They also have a one track EP comprised of five parts called The Tain, which is much like "The Island" from The Crane Wife.

Her Majesty and Castaways and Cutouts are superb albums as well, but they comprise mostly of catchy pop songs, sea shanties, and nice acoustic ditties.
