Assumedly Deerhunter will be putting out a new album next year as well. They can finally compete against the big boys (and put out the superior album.)
Those interested in psych-rock from the 70s should give this track a listen; awesome stuff!

I've been really stuck on international psych-rock lately. I bought these three compilations from Stones Throw a few months back and each is really, really good:
And, in trying to find these pictures, I stumbled upon this one I will also need to pick up:

XLR8R's Guide to Burning Man 2012
Next Monday, the annual Burning Man festival kicks off in the middle of the Nevada desert. Free spirits and playa warriors from around the globe have already begun to descend on Black Rock City, but we here at XLR8R wanted to weigh in before the festivities got started. After scouring the web, checking out the various camps, and perusing the litany of party lineups, we've put together this can't-miss guide on how best to revel in the majesty and magic of Burning Man.
Tip #1: Don't go.

'Dubstep' and 'Grime' recognized as real words by the Chambers Dictionary; see, I totally deserved that triple word score!
In contrast with their snooty cousins over at the Oxford University Press (who also have 'dubstep' and the music variation of the word 'grime' defined in their dictionary), the prestigious (?) Chambers Dictionary is something like a more carefully monitored Urban Dictionary, but with a slightly smaller number of hooligans running the show. In their new edition of the dictionary, Chambers defines 'dubstep' as a "type of electronic popular dance music developed from drum and bass," and 'grime' as a "style of popular music combining elements of dancehall and hip-hop." If you ask me, both of these definitions are woefully vague and unspecific.
For comparison's sake, let's take a look at an Urban Dictionary definition of 'dubstep', selected entirely non-randomly. User carsoncb articulately characterizes the genre, with the passion it deserves, as "the music that is created from transformers having sex." Oh, of course! That dubstep! Point, Urban Dictionary.
Other words included among the 200 new additions to the Chambers Dictionary are: 'boyband,' defined as "a pop group, targeting mainly the teenage market, composed of young males chosen because they look good and can dance and sometimes even sing," and 'beatboxing,' described as the imitation of "an electronic drum machine using the voice." Well, how about that? 'Beatboxing' finally made the cut. Pardon me while I imagine the staff at Chambers carefully navigating this newfangled internet thing, wondering what us young rapscallions are up to these days.

Yesterday I discovered that Erykah Badu copied Miles Davis, and The Black Keys copied The Cramps.
It's kind of interesting to wonder what Oasis would have sounded like if The Catherine Wheel had never written Black Metallic. Every big Oasis hit pretty much spawned from that song musically.

This sounds neat-o!
Co-operation of Krzysztof Penderecki, Aphex Twin and Jonny Greenwood is something unprecedented. Aphex Twin is a prominent figure of the contemporary electronic music; he’s the first techno artist whose works have been transcribed for orchestra and then performed in major concert halls all over the world (among others by London Sinfonietta and Alarm Will Sound). Jonny Greenwood, guitarist of Radiohead and a composer well acquainted with ‘classic’ instrumentarium, manifests his attachment to Penderecki’s music.
The programme of two concerts in Wrocław includes three compositions by Penderecki: “Polymorphia for strings”, “Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima” and “Canon for strings”. All these works, written for strings (in the latter case, for strings and tape delay), come from 1960-1962, the avant-garde years of the composer’s life. Both Aphex Twin and Jonny Greenwood will invoke just that period in their music. “Polymorphia” – performed for the first time 50 years ago – has become their source of inspiration. Aphex Twin is composing “Polymorphia Reloaded” while Jonny Greenwood - “48 Responses to Polymorphia”; both compositions will have their world premiere in Wrocław.
“Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima” has been chosen mainly because of its relations with Jonny Greenwood’s “Popcorn Superhet Receiver” (inspired by Penderecki’s music) and the Aphex Twin’s decision to remix just that piece by the Polish composer. Concerts will be supplemented with Penderecki’s “Canon” for 52 strings and tape delay, two sets by Aphex Twin, and a piece from the Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack “There Will be blood."
Programme of the September 9 concert

Aside from afrobeat stuff, are there any GREAT funk artists besides the big three and their related/solo projects (James Brown, Sly Stone, P-Funk)? I mean enduring bands with multiple great albums.

Interesting, although I haven't decided if it's all bollocks or not yet.
A lot of it seems pretty bollocksy. "Dullness as credibility" is a good one. Let's stop making me click on a new page for every item in your fucking list, websites.
