It is. Kind of in the vein of Fuck You, Penguin.
I can't really listen to Man Man on record, except Poor Jackie. Still say they're amazing live though.

I hope they understand the irony of going on endlessly about how unoriginal and cheap and boring every new band is. Unconstructive unrelenting negativity like that is about as easy and unoriginal as it gets. It was boring when that dude at Something Awful started spewing out the hate.
Complete dismissal of everything reviewed? Check. Vague reverent references to bands or at least their back catalog? Check. Obsessing over popularity and who is overrated and fashion and other unrelated nonsense? Check.
Sure, the author (or authors) here have at least some knowledge of music history and we can presume that they've liked music at some point... but that seems to be in the hazy past. And while some of their attacks may be warranted and some of the attacks may even be enough to make the TomAzs of the world chortle... they'ren't breaking any ground.
They are what they attack. They have the same flaws as the artists and albums they lambaste.
all the stuff they dig

I really like this new Pitchfork feature, "5-10-15-20." They choose a musician, who talks about his/her favorite music at five-year intervals, starting at the age of five. The inaugural edition features Doves' frontman Jimi Goodwin.

yeah I like that new feature as well. most of the artists I've cared about have really surprised me.
Interesting.
A superficial scan of those posts show... well, some actual taste. While I don't know every album they gave a positive review to the ones I do know are almost all on the very good to amazing side of things. There are a few that make me question if this is all a big joke... but that's to be expected.
Which means they actually do go out on a limb and praise things. Which means this is different in an important way than the sort of attitude/approach I sensed and was railing against.
I still may not end up liking the site as not being my cup of tea but this means I can't just dismiss it.
Hmm, is it too late to try and pass my scathing review - which was self-consciously as vitriolic and unconstructive as their reviews - off as part of an object lesson in why such reviews are bad? I tossed that off without adequate research or familiarity and missed what value there is/may be in the site... aww fuck it.
It's okay, John, you're only human.
This Matmos album from last year is pretty terrible. Stick to samples.
AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART,
AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART,
AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART,
AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART,
AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART, AND YOU KNOW YOUR HEART-
But it's an idiot heart!
A very long, very shit day's work when I should have been studying for the very important exam I'm almost certain to fail but after yelling at Spencer Krug for a few minutes I don't care. Although, I like the guy an awful lot for a man who's singing voice makes me want to stuff rocks into my ears.
Music's awesome.
In other news, in the last few days I have heard bad/ weird covers of both Keane and Ash in Tesco and McDonalds respectively. I can't believe such big corporations wouldn't even stretch to Ash and Keane.

Lovers of 80s music and Radiohead, this is for you.
Genius.
Why, it's almost good enough to have a "Let's prepare our plan!" montage.
Not only is it good enough, it's better. It could be tightened up in some spots, but I love it. I could do without the sax I suppose.
Aye, but the Sax Solo has been the ruin of many a great song.
i'm going to own this very soon

I really love Young Marble Giants, but I REALLY hate how they end their songs.
i've recently discovered how fucking awesome Ben Folds is
For the longest time I had "the Unauthorized biography of Reinhold Messner" and loved it....but listening to his the Five's whole back catalog and Folds' solo stuff really puts into perspective what a great songwriter the guy is
And completely unrelated, re-listened to "Introduce Yourself" and "Angel Dust" for the first time in a long while and holy crap those are both great records
5/23 - QOTSA - Wiltern > Boris - Echoplex

I am not implying it is better than the original. A comment was made stating that is was almost good enough to be used as montage music, and I think it surpasses montage music although the thought of Radiohead filming themselves doing something cheesy and 80s inspired for that remix is blowing my mind right now.
