Inspired by noticing that both Nico and Popul Vuh have apparently unrelated (genetically) songs called "Abscheid"* I decided to make a playlist of all the songs on my iPod that have the same name without being related. I figured this'd be rather easy and would be a quick listen. Wrong. I am up to 97 songs over almost 6 hours and only through letter B.
I am most excited to listen to discover songs that I didn't realize were covers.
If I were feeling ambitious and thought people would guess I might post on how many songs I ended up with and have people guess at how many covers I unknowingly included. It'd just be a blind guess, though; I doubt I'd post all the songs and no one'd want to look up everything anyway.
*Though it turns out I was wrong, the Popul Vuh song is "ie" and the Nico one is "ei." Damn words I don't know.
I tend to accidentally play Land of Talk's All My Friends when I'm looking for LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends, and vice versa. I'm okay with either option though, really.
Carry on.
I would love to be listening to Geogaddi and have the Marnie Stern song "The Devil Is In the Details" pop up.
Also I hope so many of these are covers.
Also the song title that is currently winning is "California" at five unique songs.
!
Alright California. Are all of those by Red Hot Chili Peppers?
Okay, what are the five different Californias? I can only come up with two, tops.
And actually, one of those was called California On My Mind.
Yeah, the other one was a Wild Light song, it was just called California when I heard it, but evidently they renamed it before release.
The California I'm thinking of was used as a TV show theme tune. Please give me the others before I go nuts.
I have two on my hard drive. One is Joni Mitchell (I didn't even know I had her on my hard drive?) and the other is Low.
I have 14 songs titled "The End" and none of them are the Doors.
Haha. I do have the Doors and also the Beatles, Les Savy Fav, Vivian Girls and David & the Citizens.
I am now through H and am up to 325 songs, almost 21 hours.
My favorite combo is "Going Down" from Ani DiFranco, the Germs and the Stone Roses. Or maybe "Gone" by Babes in Toyland, Kanye West and the Wedding Present.
And "Home" has tied "California" and "The End" at five.
I have significantly more "Love" than "Hate."
I LIKE SHORT SONGS!!!
looking to purchase:big brother skateboarding magazine back issues. travis bean tb1000s electric guitars.
i can think of even more "California"s off the top of my head
Phantom Planet Wax
This is a good activity. I'll do this sometimes with a certain word (like Burn, that i seem to have a billion of), or songs that have the same words in titles as opposed to whole titles
i like the idea of a playlist of them

I have a surprising amount of "Shame."
There are two very different Wake Ups.
there are a LOT of songs called "Angel"
The one stretch i'm giving myself is including songs that have parentheses
5/11/12 - Cloud Cult - El Rey // 5/23/13 & 5/24/13 - Boris - Echoplex // 6/7/13 + 6/8/13 - Jubilee Music Festival
6/9/13 - Devo/GZA - Natural History Museum // 6/11/13 - Bjork - Hollywood Bowl // 6/21/13-6/23/13 - Solid Sound Music Festival - MASS MOCA

None of those would be included as pairs on my list.
I'm ignoring punctuation but any word difference means it doesn't count.
Additional parentheticals that are actually part of the song title are a disqualification but notes like "Closet Mix" or "featuring Dwele" are no issue.
I think this is cool enough to deserve it's own thread.
