It's always fun to find songs that Beck wholesale ripped off for his own devices. Current culprit:

Doubly great that the F'Lips were the opener and backing band on the resultant Sea Change tour.

re-listening to Give Up by The Postal Service, and honestly, the Owl City comparison is such bullshit. this album has such more substance then anything Owl City could've attempted to do. /rant.

Orange Juice rules. Coors Light, hey, it gets the job done.

I think if you had been listening to Give Up for 7 years and then all of a sudden heard "fireflies" you would have a hard time not thinking Owl City sounded like it was heavily inspired by Postal Service.

Yeah, I guess that is true, but it seems like some people diminish what Postal Service did just because Owl City came along and sounded just like it.

Listen to The Glasgow School. It's a compilation of their early singles as well as the original version of their debut album, which they scrapped for a more polished (and inferior) retake. It's a super cool comp.

Yeah, every time I listen to This Place Is A Prison it brings to mind the haunting melodies of Fireflies.

Well no, my point was that the comparison is the other way around for people who weren't 6 years old when the Postal Service record came out. Obviously anyone is directly comparing the two as if they were contemporaries is a dipshit, but it's hard not to see that owl City was ripping off The Postal Service in a big way.

I like the idea of a city full of owls more than USPS, especially since this whole Lance Armstrong debacle has been exposed.

The Glasgow School is one of the greatest albums ever. Although I do admit I like the You Can't Hide... versions of Falling and Laughing and Three Cheers For Our Side better. It's weird they're not more popular, since almost every indie band since has taken a page from their book.

D'Angelo's new '99% done' record sounds promising. Questlove, who might be a bit biased, says:

"I would not be far off by saying this is probably my generation's version of Sly (and the Family Stone's) 'There's a Riot Goin' On.' It's potent. It's funky. It's an extremely hard pill to swallow. He's one of those artists that have, of course, taken 13 years to follow up a record. It's going to take you about 10 years to digest this record. Totally brilliant. Just the way this society works with music… being able to judge if something is a classic after the first listen, you can do that after thirty seconds on this. And the fact that we started this record in 2004, and it still sounds like it came out five years from now, it is a testament to the timelessness of it."

Edwyn Collins did alright for himself outside of Orange Juice:

True. Pretty sad about his hemorrhage, but so cool that he manages to still play shows and not let it deter him. My friend from London went and saw Arctic Monkeys a couple months ago and he came out as a surprise opening guest. Cane and all, started playing Falling and Laughing and the few who knew went apeshit.

We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I've never heard of this album before, but based on this Pitchfork review, I'm super excited and intrigued.
