Can we get some sorta original Stranglers reunion with Hugh Cornwell back on vocals.. be as big as the Smiths for me.
I got an email about Mix Mag's nominees for best dance acts of all time, I didn't know Portishead was considered Dance music. But now I know!
This works as well as any: Milk Music is a band to check out. If the 90s sound is coming back en vogue, might as well get an incredibly ferocious sounding Wipers rip than a generic Nirvana clone. And I think these guys have potential beyond what the tags have suggested.

Agree or disagree:
Funeral would have been an even more effective album had Power Out and Rebellion been put back-to-back, like they used to play them at shows.

For Christmas I asked for a ton of different 33 1/3 books and wound up receiving two copies of the Unknown Pleasures one by Chris Ott. I'm not really sure where it came from and Barnes and Noble wouldn't take it back, so I'd like to offer it to anyone here who would like it. In return, all I ask is that you pay for the shipping (which shouldn't be much as these books are very small).
If you're interested, shoot me a PM.
Just came across this on last.fm, so good! Love the droney bassline.

Yeah, the vocals are so easy to get lost in. The fact that Bethany left this band to start Best Coast kind of makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm having trouble identifying this artist's music video. It's an attractive brunette girl wearing a dark dress and she's showing a good amount of leg. She's in a car just singing and not driving. That's all I can describe. Pretty sure this music video was released over the last year.
I'ma ball at the mall shuttin' down the sea wall
Ys is a top 3 album of all time for me.
RAPE STOVE
white power?!
I dunno if I can put it in the top 3. But it's definitely in the top 10.

Vinyl people: I need a recommendation on a new turntable / record player. Belt drive versus direct drive if people from both camps exist would be a cool discussion. I'd like to say money isn't an option but if you know of higher quality for a better price it's always helpful.
Thanks.
What do you mean?
This ain't no middle of the mall shit.
i just read Bob Mould's biography which got me listen to Sugar a little bit. He mentions Dave Grohl looking up to him several times throughout the book. I haven't really listened to much of the Foo Fighters, but I may actually listen just to see the similarities.

The first two albums are really good. You'll definitely hear the Sugar similarities. The third one has some awesome songs and some boring ones. They've been very hit or miss after that.
How was the Mould biography? I love the dude and have been wondering about it.
i knew nothing about him before reading it, and i really enjoyed it. the biography is very personal and i think it really helps you understand his life and the music that he makes. it is really interesting to hear the story of how he transformed from the early Husker Du hardcore stuff, into the his 90's alternative rock solo stuff and Sugar, and then eventually into his electronica infused later material. He really explains where he was at in his life every single step of the way. The book starts with his 2009 coachella experience which was cool, and he talks about how the Daft Punk pyramid show was life changing for him. it is definitely a good read.

He seems like he's in a really good place right now. Last few shows I've seen him he's been all smiles and very comfortable telling stories about his past. He's playing some shows where he does the first Sugar album in full: it should be great.
I was listening to Copper Blue in the car today — and this articulates exactly what I was thinking, but couldn't pinpoint. I kept thinking "BIG 90S ROCK RADIO AWESOME YEAH!"
Actually just finished the Mould biography. I really recommend it; it's not technically brilliant, but it's so honest and really thorough that I appreciated him a lot more at the end (meaning, appreciated the fact he did it.) Also, I really came to terms with why Husker Du broke up and will never play a show again; he does make good justifications for all the decisions he's made in his life/musical career throughout the book.
Ultimately the book explains how through failed relationships, friendships and his music, he was finally able to find himself and be comfortable in his own skin. I would really like to see him someday, it seems like he really puts all of himself into his live shows.

^ Seeing him at ATP was so amazing for me. I got to talk to him, took a rad photo of him and he was really gracious and was down to let me tell him about how I was a big fan of his songwriting. When he mentioned ATP in the book, I got super giddy.
Ugh, tried to get them to do a tape a while back. They said they only self release in small batches![]()
Mould headlined one night of last year's Athens Pop Fest, and it was such a great show. He'd read a section of his autobiography and then play a song from that point in his life. He was warm and funny throughout and interacted with the crowd a lot. I was already a fan, but the night really captured not just his own personal journey as a musician but what he's contributed to the last 25 years of music.
Unbelievably, some in the crowd were pissed at the format. Apparently they just wanted him to burn through Hüsker Dü songs for a couple hours and call it a day.
The beat is nuts. Heard it on BBC Radio 1 months ago, then it finally got an official release.
