Rather Ripped. can't explain why. it just is. I think it's nearly perfect. Then Daydream Nation then Dirty.

Daydream Nation is just above everything else the band has done I think, so it's hard to say it's my favorite album of there's just because it's my most listened to... it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime, era-defining kinds of albums. One of the best collections of songs in rock history.

So with that said my personal favorite is probably Murray Street... I like jam bands, and I like punk rock, and so it's both pretty rare and pretty special when those opposite movements come together so nicely like they do on that album to make something cohesive.

I liked that rank-your-Sonic-Youth albums thing that was going a while back... Washing Machine, Sister, and Sonic Nurse are probably what round out my top 5. I'm really partial to their contemporary period but I'm trying to get into the old stuff these days...

I've had a lot of trouble getting into their work from this decade. I don't know why.

I'd say Radiance of Shadows is the place to start. Then maybe Touched. I'm not super versed in their discography, I'm more a fan of Aidan Baker's solo stuff and some of his other collaborations.

On a complete side note... Anyone familiar with Asmus Tietchens? I'm having a super hard time with some of his stuff and feel like I don't have a leg to walk on when trying to make sense of his non-typical minimalist stuff.

I have been a little surprised by all the Murray Street love. That took me some time to get into. I have certainly warmed up to it but it's still behind (at least) Sister and Daydream Nation and Dirty.

I'm happily surprised by it. I thought I was in a minority with my adoration of that album.

I was digging through some VHS's in the garage... didn't realize my dad was a Happy Mondays fan . I thought this was a pretty awesome live performance.

Every so often, I rewatch this, because it's the best thing documented to film ever:

If they somehow got Michael Gira to do the vocals, I would welcome a Joy Division reunion/tour/whatever.

That was surreal. Prince took forever to get on stage and spent all of his time taking his shirt of and doing microphone stand acrobatics. wtf? That was wild though. I wonder if Prince was fucked up that night. The three of them don't do much musically in that but it was well worth the watch.

    Today I can rejoice!

ALBUM #4 IS ON THE WAY!

    http://www.brokensocialscene.ca/blog.php#view559118

David Newfeld may or may not be involved, but either way, John McEntire is a genius so I trust that whatever he's doing will be interesting in the least. Onward and upward!

    I'm fucking excited.

As much as I love Wolf Eyes, that's got to be the dullest representation of their live show possible, especially since it cuts off just when they reach what they're building towards.

have you guys tinkered w/ this yet?

essentially, create your own music by playing existing Youtube clips. very awesome. frankly, some of the pieces i've "composed" this morning deserve a 9.0-10.0 Pitchfork rating.

    that's pretty damned funny.
