I don't think I can disagree with this.

I need some recommendations for some good contemporary lo-fi country because that's what I'm in the mood for this weekend and I really know nothing about the style of music.

Depending on how you define those various words the following may be worth looking into. Sorry that this is past that weekend.

• Bonnie 'Prince' Billy/Will Oldham/Palace etc - Try I See A Darkness or The Letting Go
• Smog/Bill Callahan - The older you get the more lo-fi it is. Julius Caesar is my favorite of the old material; maybe I'd point to A River Ain't Too Much To Love for a more recent album. Though he just put out another!
• Gillian Welch - Bluegrassy American primitive. She played Coachella in 2007. She and David Rawlings (who works with her on her albums) have worked with Ryan Adams a good deal. Her four albums are matchless.
• Crooked Fingers/Eric Bachmann. The self-titled Crooked Fingers and I really like the covers EP Reservoir Songs.
• Willard Grant Conspiracy - Regard the End is a fantastic place to start.
• Jason Molina/Magnolia Electric Co/Songs: Ohia - His band work has become more of a country-flavored rock thing over the years but The Lioness is a stunning album and his solo disc Let Me Go Let Me Go Let Me Go is also amazing.
• Two Gallants - This duo from San Francisco... well, they play an indie rock that has a lot of country/folk/roots influences. Try their first album, The Throes on for size.

I would like to nominate 106.1 KRAB (Bakersfield/Central Valley) as the worst radio station in the country. I pass through there every now and then for work and occasionally flip to it, and every time it's just rock bottom god awful. Seether, Nickelback, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, etc. rules the airwaves on that station. And all the DJ's talk like the MC's at strip clubs.

Absolutely terrible.

It's unfortunate that I just came upon this post a minute ago, but I seriously appreciate the response and reccomendations here mountmccabe, and yes, I still am in that same mood! In fact, I never really got my fix, I just listened to My Morning Jacket's first album a bunch of times over like I always do.

I'm surprised I've never listened to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy before. I should get on that. I hear his name all the time but I never knew he fell into this genre at all.

Pot greeted the news that she was dating Bill Callahan with stony resistance. I believe she's moved on now. She made her appearance in the gossip rags with Andy Samberg (which confused me because I thought he was gay - separate thoughts totally from the ones that I don't understand why I care)

She has gifted photographers. That's all I'll say about that.

I love the shit out of her music though.

Daydream Nation is probably my favorite album of all time. Either that or Here Comes The Warm Jets. It used to be my least favorite SY album for quite awhile after I got into them, but after getting stoned and driving around the Cuyahoga Valley while listening to it all the time, it started making sense. Second is probably Sister, then Bad Moon Rising, then A Thousand Leaves, then EVOL, then Confusion Is Sex/Kill Yr Idols . . .

Michael Jackson sold out 50 shows at London's 02 Arena last month, but if AllGood Entertainment has its way, they might not happen. Apparently, the promotion company is suing Jackson because a contract it signed with him and the other members of the Jackson 5 stipulates that he cannot perform for 12 months prior to or 3 months after that show, which blacks Jackson out until July 2010. The 02 concerts are to be held starting July 8, 2009.

The language in the contract seems pretty tight and specifically states that Jackson cannot perform with or without the Jackson 5. However, capitalist sensibilities tell us that this will somehow work itself out. However much AllGood planned on making on the one-off Jackson 5 concert could easily be doubled by revenue from the other 50 shows and rolled into a settlement agreement. There is just too much at stake here to let these shows not go on - we hope.
