Staying in Palm Springs

Hi There... First time Coachella Goer - First Time Poster..

Is it madness trying to drive into the venue each day? How long does it take to get in and park?

I am working on solidifying a weekend place to stay for the show. Right now I am booked into a place in Palm Springs, CA. Any idea how long it will take to drive from there to the venue?

Is there a closer town that isn't already completely booked that we may want to look at?

Any help / advice / insight here would be appreciated.

I stay in Palm Springs, this is my third Coachella.
2005 no sell outs..easy easy easy.no problems at all..maybe thirty minutes door to venue
2006 Sat no problem again...maybe a bit longer 45-60 minutes door to venue.
Sunday....SUCKED 3 hours door to venue....in other words if its a sell out day leave very very early....Madonna fans packed the venue.

This year....really not worried about Friday or Sat at all...I think you'll have the music fans that really like the festival. Bjork and RHCP have followings but nothing rabid.

Sunday, well if thereis a band that is playing early that you want to see i recommend 2-3 hours earlier than when they hit stage. I speculate Sunday to be a mess as far as getting to the venue.

Any particular reason to pick Palm Springs? Is that pretty much as close you can get to the venue at this point?

There are 4-6 of us going so we are leaning towards renting a condo from vacationrental.com.

rented from them last year and it was great. 6 People, I recommend Tranquil vistas (3 bedroom, pool, wifi access 300 a night) nice place...what sucks is the taxes and the deposit. I don't recommend taking the highways into Coachella, far outta the way...take the main road (which i don't rememeber the name of maybe Canyon road or something) but it takes you through cathedral city and bypassess all highways and is quicker.

no, you can probably find closer...just gonna take some searching and may run you a bit more money.

im staying in palm springs right off i-10 i believe. we plan to be out of p.springs 10 am each day. my main tip is always give yourself 2 hrs to relax and be patient!!!
