Not quite a real reunion...
I know people are disappointed, but honestly...I feel like D'Arcy and James Iha weren't really that important in the music.
I agree Tyler. If it were just booked as Billy Coragan and he played Pumpkin songs I would be ok with it.
Dude I went to the world premire of Mellon Collie in Chicago at the Riviera Theater on the 23rd of Oct 1995. I was a HUGE Pumpkins fan. That would be fine..just don't call it a SP reunion...I was a huge fan of the Smashing Pumpkins before they broke up...doesn't feel right...
D'arcy harmonizes with Corgan on virtually every decent pumpkins song...
Corgan sounds like shit by himself.
if there is no D'arcy, i'll really think twice about seeing any of their shows
uhhh.... no she doesn't.
if anything James was the most important loss, because he has shaped how every single song sound in its live incarnation (or various incarnations)... alongside billy. finding someone else who can play their songs like he does in conjunction with billy will be really hard.
nme is a really shitty publication, they do no real journalism, they just scour the web and copy information from message boards and other articles.
as i've said for a while on this board, james and d'arcy are not in.
Kind of hard to accept money to play a festival when you don't have a band to play with yet... It would be really risky to accept that offer from Goldenvoice and then totally botch the whole thing, not to mention how it would hurt their image in the US... Its not about the money, its about making sure they don't hurt their image too much so they can make money for a longer period of time.Geary said that the Pumpkins were not coming back together for the money.
He told MTV News: "They've had some amazingly big offers - some seven figure onces to play certain shows - and Billy has passed on several because he didn't think it was the right thing for the band."
I thought The Pumpkins lack of talent hurt their image?
The Glitter Freeze
Coachella 99-10 Vet, the run has ended in 2011
I saw the thread as SP and I thought this thread was about the Sneaker Pimps reuniting for Coachella...I'd have more interest in that than Smashing Pumpkins...
So if the "Pumpkins" are not reuniting for the money, then why did Billy accept the offer from some German nu-metal shit-fest, and not one from Goldenvoice? Why one offer and not the other?
I wouldn't want them to play Coachella either if all four original members weren't together. It wouldn't seem right to be playing Coachella with only half of the original line-up. I'd definately go and see them if Billy got them together with only him and Jimmy as the original members however. Isn't Melissa Auf Der Mar going to be working with them when they get their stuff together?
All is Full of Love, All Around You
How come no one had a problem when nine inch nails played even though it wasn't with the original lineup? It doesn't matter. Billy is to the pumpkins what trent is to the nails.
i'm so sick of the smashing pumpkins and they're not even back together yet. just saying.
James Iha will never take a stage with Billy Corgan again... EVER. There is no Smashing Pumpkins without James & Darcy. Just call it ZWAN and make another brutal album and then get that band to hate you.
(insert flame posts now)

Billy basically taught James and D'Arcy how to play their instruments, I am sure he could do it again. D'Arcy was already ably replaced by Melissa. I agree with Tyler here.
James was already capable in his guitar playing... D'Arcy if anything is easily the most replacable (musically)... the only thing she really accomplished was probably some ability to legitimately criticize Corgan without the fear of a great wrathful revenge.
