    Default Favorite Live Albums?

I've been listening to live albums all day, so I began compiling a short list of my favorites.

    In no particular order:
    James Brown--Live at the Apollo
    The Band--The Last Waltz
    Portishead--Roseland
    Allman Brothers Band--At Filmore East
    Nirvana--Unplugged
    Johnny Cash--At Folsom Prison
Thelonius Monk Quartet w/ John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall
    Joe Cocker--Mad Dogs and Englishmen
    Talking Heads--Stop Making Sense
NOFX--I Heard They Suck Live (and they do, but it's great anyway)
    Bob Marley--Live!
    the Grateful Dead--Europe '72
    Tool--Salival (though far too short)

    Thoughts? Favorites? Shit-talking?
    Let's have at it

for those of you who dislike the red hot chili peppers, and/or doubt the talent/live ability of any of the musicians, I implore you to watch/listen to live at slane castle.

I love the bootleg I have of Joanna Newsom at Paraiso in Amsterdam. Stellar sound quality and perfect performance.

Yeah, MTV had some really good unplugged shows in that era. 10,000 Maniacs Unplugged is pretty brilliant.

I think I had to see Pearl Jam 13 years ago to buy into the greatness of their live act. They were just okay at Lolla last year, imo.

I think pearl jams prime was in between 1998 and 2001. 2000 was the first year they started releasing all their shows on cd. 1998 was the year Live on Two Legs was recorded. Another great live album.

Well, I have only seen pearl jam a hand full of times. Definantly not until they were huge. Never been too into them but I do reconise their greatness. And I would say you are right on about them being amazing and for sure the best of their generation. (I'm counting Tool as a little newer school. : ) But, what about pink flyod? You are really putting them above muthafuckin pink flyod? 13 years ago, what is that 95'? I can respect that. What size venue Jsam67?

And kreutz2112 that is amazing they filmed/taped your new york show. i wish i was there.

i was actually at slightly's "live in san deigo" shows. they made the dvd and double disc cd from the show.

Last year outdoors at Grant Park in Chicago, I'm sure it was about 70,000-75,000 people. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, but I wasn't moved or anything (except during Betterman with the crowd singing the entire first verse and Eddie remarking "fucking beautiful"). It just wasn't the same to me as I envision seeing them in their prime would've been. I often wish I had been old enough to see awesome live acts in the early to mid-90s (PJ, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, STP, AIC, etc.).

Also, Pink Floyd > pretty much everything.
