Nothing funny or comedic or cool about earthquakes.

I was living in Northridge when that one hit and my friend who was living at the Northridge Meadows got injured badly.

My other friend had his chimney collapse and land in bed next to him. Luckily it didn't land on him.

Everything I owned at the time was destroyed. My building was red tagged and I couldn't go back and salvage anything.

God knows I tried but I was escorted out by the National Guard.

It's not a subject to joke about.

My boss lives in Glendora and he got hit pretty strong. Knocked over entire shelves of stuff and his hanging lights were rocking almost to the ceiling.

I hear ya. Back in 2000, I think some young boy died because he was asleep on the floor by his chimney when the quake struck, and one of the bricks fell on his head and killed him. It ain't funny.

Our chimney in our current house is still capped off and unrepaired from that last quake.

this wooden lettering in my room jumped up, smashed into the wall, broke into multiple pieces, then fell behind my dresser. that was awesome.

We definitely felt it 20 floors up in Hollywood. There were several people freaking out..hehe

My parents just moved to LA less than a year ago so that was the first one they felt.

Hm, afew seconds of rolling GPS? I'm housesitting in a big home here in Rancho Mirage and was taking advantage of the acoustics here, playing my guitar. I thought I was the one causing the rolling until that jolt. Now I'm wondering what my little condo full of eclectic decor and precariously balanced shit looks like...5.6 in Chico Hills? Great, now I can spend the rest of the day looking towards those foothills over yonder...

Lame. Why am I the only person who didn't get to feel it?? Everybody in my office felt it except me! I am in Beverly Hills just below Mulholland.

I love earthquakes, but probably only because it has been such a long time since the Northridge one that my memory has gotten hazy. I do remember that sounded and felt like a freight train coming into the house and that terrified me when it was happening (we were less than 3 miles from Northridge). It gave me an instant panic attack...which was probably exacerbated by the fact that I had been on a 3-4 day meth bender with no sleep...which continued for another two days cause I was too scared to go back in and sleep inside our moderately damaged house. I sat in my driveway wrapped in a blanket watching TV with an equally tweaked neighbor. Fortunately, those day are long behind me.

I have been saying for months we are due for an earthquake, and I have to go and miss the first good one in a long time...gah!

Oh, and leave me here trying to hold that crack in the earth together by my damn self, GPS? And if 5.6 was a pre-shock, I need to go to the liquor store sometime soon and stock up!

Yeah well everybody here is ok thank god but still..... not that i take everything serious and this earthquake was not strong here in the valley but earthquakes are pretty fucking serious. We can laugh this one off for the people that didnt feel it that hard but i dont think we should find it humorous that someone had an earthquake related death. a 6.0 earthquake can hit in a lot of places in cali especially so cal.

I think it's easy for all of us to joke because really, they are far and few between, but in all seriousness? No, not funny at all. Sorry, Ardentbiscuit.

What would make something like that funny would be one of those big ones going off and seeing your scared white ass and flailing arms running on foot in the direction of New Jersey! Otherwise, no, not humorous, Randy.

Even more hilarious if the little place you call home collapses with all your precious drugs inside and you die of withdrawal.

Kinda funny, this is the first earthquake that many people in my office have ever felt, and they can't figure out why I'm bummed that I missed out.

I must have been swiveling in my chair or something. I am sure that it didn't feel anywhere near the 5.6 they say it was, at least up here in the hills. But a messenger guy who came up here to pick something up shortly after said that he felt it while he was driving down Wilshire Blvd.
