I wonder if Betty's close call with cancer is going to make her nicer. She seemed nice to her daughter but that was only one scene. I'm also wondering if Betty is going to drag Don back into her life.

I really don't think it will. Evidenced by the inhaling of the ice cream at the end of the show. Once everything is fine, she falls right into her old habit.

A Betty and Don reunion would be way too soapy for the show.

Then again, the Peggy pregnancy at the end of season 1 almost made me bail on the series for that very reason.

Although Jon Hamm did direct the episode from 2 weeks ago. Still, your point is made.

Good riddance indeed. Greg was the worst character on the show because he was so one-note and unrelentingly bad. The show's primary strength is the nuance that it gives to its myriad of characters. Greg had absolutely no nuance and was a drag whenever he was on screen. Glad they didn't leave him to get shot in Vietnam or whatever; it would have been annoying to suffer through a bunch of episodes with Joan as a military widow to some forgettable character.

I really liked Sunday's episode the more I think about it. It was even more indebted to the Sopranos than the fat Betty Francis episode from the week prior. Instead of being haunted by the ghosts of the men he's whacked, Mad Men's protagonist is haunted by the ghosts of the women he's screwed.

I was kind of hoping as Don walked out of his bedroom at the end of this past episode, the camera would pan down and show that Don's ex was actually dead under the bed. Oh well. Good episode, cant wait to see what happens next. Peggy/Roger gonna hook up?

I love the downward spiral Roger is heading down. I feel like his bankruptcy is inevitable an inevitable happening. I also thought it was interesting that Greg raping Joan was finally acknowledged and served a purpose. I've always felt it was strange how that happened and never came up again.

Every time Greg was near our Joanie I got angry because the rape was never acknowledged. Greg's character definitely was not as developed as others. I also was kinda hoping the woman would be under the bed too. Maybe I've been watching too much Investigation Discovery...

I'm not sure Greg really needed to be developed. Given his limited screen time, I think his primary role was to play a stereotypical young white man from the late 50s/early 60s, and I think he did that ok. Ken Cosgrove seemed to have been cast for the same purpose, although he's had 100x more screen time than Greg. Unless I'm forgetting a few key episodes, Ken's character has had virtually no development over the course of the seasons.

Does "Tapping a Maple on a Cold Vermont Morning" mean nothing to you, Chris? Nothing?! And he was very developed in the eyes of Sal Romano!

I can get that Greg functioned as a symbol of Joan's sociologically-driven marital aspirations (as well as the ultimate horror of the reality of those aspirations as they played out for so many women of her generation), but good lord, did they really have to make him a clumsy doctor, too?

hahahaha, yeah that story. You gotta admit though, he has virtually no backstory or depth. It's like they just wanted someone who looked like the kid from The Sandlot, but 20 years older. And that was the only prerequisite.

I largely agree with you. Ken exists primarily as a foil for other characters (particularly Pete) to respond to. Though he does have one of my favorite lines in the whole series when he was trying to hit on Jane (long before she became Mrs. Sterling): "Title? I'm Ken … Cosgrove … Accounts."

I'm curious as to if because Greg is out of the picture if Joan will try to get Roger to be more of a father figure. Which in turn will give Roger something to feel proud of and we can have the old Roger back.

Except, correct me if I'm wrong, Roger still thinks she got rid of the baby at the clinic.

That hasn't really been addressed yet. Does Roger think Greg came back & knocked up Joan shortly after he got her pregnant and she had an abortion? I think that's doubtful. His line upon seeing her for the first time in the season premier, "There's my baby," could have been construed a couple of different ways.

Roger would have to know, right? Unless Joan told him some elaborate, nonsensical lie about getting pregnant again immediately after aborting his baby, but even that doesn't really work.

I loved how Peggy got stuck holding Joan's baby, and then Pete walked in and looked at her and the baby like 'WTF....is that the one that you and I had?' Then when she says its Joan's, he cools off.

Naw, Roger knows its his baby. And I am sure Joan feels better that Greg is gone, so that at least the real father could possibly be in the picture somehow. But yeah, I doubt anyone in the scene except Joan thought anything of his line.

This was brilliant! I laughed so hard. His facial expression was priceless.
