Wont it end up SCDC with Lane gone?

I smell monogamy difficulties for Don next season...that finale was nowhere near as good as the two episodes leading up to it, but man did I love the shit out of that final sequence with the Bond theme song. LOVE.

I was so happy to see Peggy in this episode for some reason. Otherwise, this was a very dull season finale. So many in your face metaphors and themes. Pete's fling with the housewife (what's her name anyway?) just seems so unbelievable.. I mean there is no sexual chemistry at all (compare it to Roger with Megan's mom). The shot with Don walking away from Megan (Beauty) was glorious though. I don't understand the whole final scene - is Don going back to his old ways simply because Megan looks to be doing something successful now? Doesn't really make me look forward to next season (unlike past finales).
Yeah, they blew their load on the last couple of shows; season finale was boring at best. Sort of wishing he had started being a manwhore earlier in the season rather than implying that it's starting again at the end of it.
I doubt that they're making Joan a full, named partner.
I liked this episode better than the last one, though none of the later episodes has been as good as the stretch from episodes 5-8. But I suspect that I am one of the few who finds the Pete Campbell stuff fascinating.
I like that the wallet photo finally paid off; I had thought about that last week and was trying to piece it together without much luck.
Megan has essentially become another Betty Draper. At first, she held Don's interest bc he was in awe of her brilliance. Nothing else mattered to him. Then she went down the acting route and Don was able to somewhat support it because on the surface it appeared to be an artistic pursuit fueled by passion. But it seemed the commercial spot was the last straw. Clearly, as her mom pointed out, Megan is now just a little girl taking advantage of the luxury of her situation to blindly chase dreams. I kept thinking about how maybe this mirrored how things went with Betty's modeling career and that Don was recognizing it. Don gave her what she wanted but it obviously dramatically altered how he sees her and looks like he's going back to his old ways.
i was thinking the same thing during the commercial, rag and bone.
also, this reminded me of an HBO series end, it always seems like the episodes just before the finale are the most exciting. i hope peggy becomes at the same power level as don soon.

Peggy watching the dogs hump and Roger standing naked at the window like some glorious bastard had me laughing to an embarrassing degree. I generally agree that this finale was underwhelming in comparison to previous ones and that it was really on the nose in a lot of spots. Although this is the first time I've been watching along with the air dates instead of just binging on Netflix, so I'm almost glad this didn't leave me with a cliffhanger feeling. Also, that shot with the board members in the empty office staring out the window was pretty stunning, even if it kind of screamed "Look at this cinematic, iconic shot!" and kind of played off a feeling that wasn't totally earned (in fact, the whole SCD(P?) ascending to a new era of success was kind of underplayed in general to focus on I guess more Pete Campbell stuff, and while I actually do enjoy his character, this just seemed like the wrong place to delve into that storyline).
Don was in pain the whole episode. Guilt about his brother and Lane, literal tooth pain, and the pain of seeing things play out the same with Megan as they had with Betty. This is the beginning of him remembering why he was such a philanderer to begin with: it was an escape. I thought it was all great.

Weird prediction: we will get a credit roll soundtracked by Country Joe and the Fish's "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag" at some point this season; that second verse is too perfect for Don Draper shilling for Dow Chemical at the height of Vietnam.

Doubt it. Matt Weiner has never shown a bunch of new footage to tease new seasons; hell, even the "next week" previews at the end of episodes during the season are 12 seconds of context-devoid nonsense.
"Next week on Mad Men: characters look at each other, express various emotions. Pete: 'This has been some day around here.' Only on AMC."

Looks like the season premiere will be at Christmas time, and will include a Hawaiian vacation per photos released by AMC.
That would put the beginning of this season at the end of 1967, effectively skipping over most of that year in the show's chronology. That's okay though -- 1968 was one of the craziest years in American history.
