Do you recommend coming on the Thursday night?

Is it worth while to come to and camp overnight on the Thursday? What is there to do? Just chill, and wait for the morning? Is there alot of traffic on the Thursday night? I have never been before, and wonder whether its better to head down a day earlier or what...any help would be greatly appreciated.

we are gonna be in p.springs thursday to check in and relax/ we are actually gonna take scenic drive to indio to check out the place and see where there might be some ways out quciker and any good food outlets. any suggestions?

lol oh yes. in fact, like the person above said, the line makes it pretty much that you HAVE to check in late (if you get there after a certain point in the evening). i think last year we got in line around 10pm and didn't finally actually get to our site/start setting up camp 'til well past midnite.

in '05, we arrived around midnight and didn't get totally checked in until after 2 am. there are no rules as to when you can check in (i think).

we were dumba$$es and didn't think to get beer beforehand so we could at least be drinking while waiting in line (yeah yeah, no alcohol inside).

like, im only used to the Sasquatch camping where you set your tent up right behind or car or whatever... is it not like that? you park your car...and then walk over to the camping site? so you gotta drag all your gear and shit from the car a ways to put it on some site that they designate? so...is it practically impossible to smuggle in like a 12pack of beer?

In the past, there have been activities and giveaways on the eve of the festival for campers, so I'd vote for getting there Thursday night

i definately recommend setting up camp on thursday. the onsite camping has gotten progressively better every year since my first time in 2004. 2004 camping was pretty dull. there was only food available. 2005 brought in a big inflatable movie screen. they showed willy wonka and the chocolate factory. there was also a raffle for some coachella goods. 2006 has been the best so far. movie screen showing the coachella movie, bar area with karaoke included, the dodge tent which had video games, magazines, computers for internet access (wireless access from your tent), and prizes from a guy that was way too excited to be giving away those little prizes (MINI FLASHLIGHT!!!!, RETRACTABLE EARBUDS!!!)

Yeah, I only went in 04 and 05 so far, and just between those 2 years there was immense improvement in camping. I can't wait.
