My brother in-law's motocycle instructor was hit by a car on an overpass so hard that he flew over the guard fence onto the highway below, where he was run over and killed. Soon after hearing about this terrible accident, my sister made my brother in-law sell his bike.

We waited until the kids graduated college and were supporting themselves before we got the REALLY fast bike.

I've known many many fellow riders and almost without fail someone who often gets hit is pretty much trying to get hit.


Everyone loves to tell horror stories to riders about people they know who got hurt on a bike, and we have to grin politely and avoid the temptation to tell them that the majority of MC injuries result from ppl not riding responsibly. Yeah you might know someone who DID ride responsibly and got hit anyway, but you probalby know a lot more people that were injured worse in a car.

of course, that's why it's the responsibility of the rider to be defensive. You made the choice to put yourself at risk so it's YOUR problem to make sure you stay safe. You always assume the car can't see you.

You want to whip around someone's blind spot, try to make that risky left turn, split lanes in fast moving traffic? It's always your fault when you get hit.

We have a points system...driving in the carpool we ride the lines and when we see a moto we dramatically get over and give them alot of space....if they give you a peace sign it's two points, a whole hand is 5, a thumbs up is 10 and if a cop does anything its 25 points.

This excites moto guys so much. Riding the lines and then swerving over to give them room at exactly two car lengths behind you yields the most points
