    Fffffffffffuuuuuuuck

Edit: I thought this was related to the domestic incident. Turns out another substance abuse issue. I figure the Cards have to release him now. I'm sure he'll enjoy watching football and toking up with Josh Gordon, at least. Sigh

I am actually hearing rumblings that Gordon won't be suspended the full year. The profootballtalk article quoted Cleveland reporter Mary Kay Cabot, who was referring to an old interview with Gordon where he said he thought he was in stage 3 but he wasn't sure. There is some confusion as to which stage he is in, because last year was supposed to be his first offense in stage two, which doesn't automatically push him to stage three.

There are also rumblings that it was either a false positive or he missed a test and he's trying to get the suspension completely lifted or reduced. He and Rosenhaus are still appealling which is why the story broke a month ago before the Mathis and Washington incidents were made public and yet still has no real resolution. I fully expect the worst, but wouldn't be surprised if it was reduced to eight games either. Last year he had it reduced to two games when it was supposed to be an automatic four games. So, we will see.

Hopefully two things happen that help these guys going forward:

    1) They can follow the rules

    2) The NFL stops testing for marijuana

NFL announces Will Hill suspended for first six games of 2014

This is his second suspension for substance abuse in the past year and he was also suspended four games for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy in 2012. Today he was handed a six-game suspension.

^ I expect the same to happen to Josh Gordon, six games. Which is a shame, because I think if he was there all year, they'd have a good shot at being a contender in the division. But for him to be gone for both games against the Steelers, and the Saints and Ravens games? Killer.

ETA: But if the "I was at a party but did not inhale" line works, maybe he can get a shorter sentence.

Maybe it's my blind hatred of the Steelers talking, but I look at that roster and I am not impressed at all. If Cleveland gets any sort of consistency from the QB position this year, they'll finish ahead of Pittsburgh whether they have Gordon or not. The Bengals and Ravens, however, are going to be much tougher challenges.

I think the Steelers are in trouble. They've drafted horribly in recent years and their best players are past their prime.

Being a fellow Steelers hater, I hope you're right.

But then again, I wrote them off last year after four games last year, playing the "they're too old" and "not very deep" cards... only to have them surprise the hell out of me by winning 8 of their last 12.

And I am *NOT* confident whatsoever in the Bengals this year. Losing both coordinators, Saints, Colts, Pats, Broncos, Falcons (Who I think will be much improved this year), on top of the usually tough division schedule = 8-8 or 9-7 AT BEST, if they get lucky with some of those NFC opponents. I wouldn't be surprised if the orange cats go 6-10 this year.

That's the defeated Bengals fan talking. It's in your blood, just like Browns' fans. I think the Bengals win the division. If Gordon only misses six games, I have them fighting with Baltimore for second and winning 8 games or so. I think Pittsburgh is a 6-10 / 7-9 team this year.

If you push her so hard that she brakes bones you're goddamn right, he is a beater of women and deserves every stigma attached to that label. But by all means, keep defending him.

U.S. Patent office cancels the trademark on the Washington NFL team's name.

It seems like this creates some interesting conflicts in terms of no-longer-infringing merchandise that can now be legally sold.

I think this happened before and a court overturned it. Be interesting to see what happens if this sticks.

My buddy works for NFL Network and he said there's been rumblings that the team has begun securing trademarks for the Washington Bravehearts. I would assume they'll have that name waiting in the wings (along with a more flesh-toned logo) should they lose the appeal. I honestly don't see why they're putting up such a fight. Just rename the team the Bravehearts or the Warriors and move on. A good portion of the fanbase will still wear their old Redskins gear and for some people that's what the team will always be called, it just can't be the official name.

Although, I mean, frankly Kansas City Kikes is a lot more phonetically satisfying to say than Kansas City Royals. The alliteration is pleasant.

I would assume that's something the Patent Office would deny on the same grounds that the Redskins trademarks were both denied. Reminds me of this very effective ad campaign, though.
