Right, the dolphins would rather have a guy who took last year off over a guy who was a fumbled punt away from the super bowl.

No not at all. I'm just I think the Dolphins either realized that Smith wasn't going to sign with them in the first place or once Peyton signed with the broncos that they thought he was going to resign with the 49ers. Plus it's not like Garrard a bad QB, he took last year off to recover from Back surgery. Not to put him in the same class as Manning but that's exactly what Peyton did right?

    Tebow to the Jets.

And the Saints are getting punished hard for the bounty program. Head coach suspended for the full year. $500,000 fine. Lost two 2nd round picks. Assistant coaches are suspended at least 6 games each. Gregg Williams might get mega-punished, as well.

Sean Peyton got suspended for one year! And the NFL docked the Saints two second round draft picks. All because of that bounty shit.

    Damn this seems really harsh.

Damn, no way. He's with the Rams now right? I bet Jeff Fisher is pissed.

I don't think these punishments are warranted at all, football is a violent physical game and sure the whole bounty thing isn't cool but that's been happening for decades.

It's a new era. They spent the last several years changing rules to avoid neck and head injuries. They're getting hounded with concussion lawsuits. When it comes out that teams in your organization are internally practicing to reward players for causing excessive (outside of normal play) injuries to opposing players, it looks bad.

Yeah I agree with you it does look bad. I'm a Charger fan so I really don't care, but it just sucks that these guys are the ones taking all of the heat when this is happening league wide. I totally understand wanting to protect players too, concussions are really dangerous and we really don't know a whole lot about them yet. But ever since Goodell has been Commissioner he's been dishing out these crazy punishments on guys that just seem really harsh. I get everything Goodell is doing from a business prospective, and trying to protect the image of the NFL, but in my opinion it's taking away from the game a bit.

Also, keep in mind that the general overhead rule is always "Don't do it, but especially don't get caught" for all of these situations.

The players were given under the table cash payments, not for creating sacks or turnovers, but for injuring other players. Given the current climate of the NFL, Sean Payton is lucky he's not suspended indefinitely as well. One of the main goals of every athlete is to compete without incurring injury. These guys were effectively bribing their players to injure the opposition, and they got what they deserved.

Uh. Yeah. Actually, there is a lot we know about concussions and head injuries. Perspective.

Yeah I definitely agree with what you guys are saying, you bring up some valid points. And somebody has to be made an example of when stuff like this gets exposed. I think I just have a vendetta against Goodell, dude is a Nazi. Encouraging injuring other players is not cool at all. The main thing I have a problem with is the fines for certain hits throughout the season. When a player commits to a hit/tackle it's so hard to tell yourself after you commit, "oh I better hit this guy correctly or I'm going to get fined."

But that's a whole other topic of conversation.

Well I agree with you in tht Goodell is a nazi with the whole punishing people for injuring others stance. Classic Nazi.

    Hahaha you bastard Malcolm.

I agree that these dudes should be punished for bounties just not indefinitely or a whole year, but some of the hits that they're fined for are unwarranted. Sometimes when a player is about to tackle or hit another player, the player that is about to take the hit will crouch down, which makes it look like the defensive player is "aiming for the head," when in reality they aren't at all.

Williams had been doing this for years, and Payton had to have known about it when he was on the saints. And, If players get suspended for a few games for over-the-top hits this decision seems valid.

I think the Saints were lucky that's all that happened to them. There is no reason or excuse you can give for running a bounty program. Trying to intentionally hurt someone is not ok. I hope they never let Greg Williams back in the NFL.

But yeah Tebow to the Jets makes no sense at all.
