Holy shit. I remember when it was $21 for SoCal residents.

$92 to stand in line...oh wait you have friends family kids etc... And you may have to eat!

Amazing, rarely seen Disneyland construction footage

    All 64 minutes are golden
From the 2011 D23 expo, here's a one-hour presentation by Imagineer Tony Baxter of a trove of vintage, rarely/never seen footage documenting the construction and renovation of Disneyland. The presentation is lively, the footage, amazing. There's so much to love here -- scenes of Imagineers lovingly adding scorchmarks to the sails of the Pirates of the Caribbean galleon with a blowtorch, construction workers tightrope-walking on the Monorail beam, and many, many skybuckets.
    Love the mermaid tryouts.

How many guys does it take to zip a lady into her mermaid costume?

Thanks for that. Productivity be-damned... I watched the whole thing.

I was gonna get the 2nd lowest pass: includes Sundays; 11 months of the year.
But I'm finally moving out of my parents' place next month, so I'm rethinking it. :/

So, Dapper Day's Fall event is just around the corner on Friday, Sept 6th. This time my friend and I decided to use their Disney Hotel discount link to stay at the Grand Californian since we've never stayed there. I'm pretty excited.

Now I need to get my dress together.

California Grand is the best hotel at the resort, but its only ranked as a 4 star hotel. Disneyland hotel is 5 stars because it has tennis courts. To be a 5 star hotel you need either tennis courts or a golf course. I like the new pool at the Disneyland hotel with the water slides made out of the old monorails. Make sure to check out Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar, they are open till 2am.

Not sure if this belongs in the beer thread, here, or somewhere else, but apparently there was a Busch Gardens in Van Nuys once.

This makes me miss the Alligator Farm and Movieland Wax Museum a little more. Something finally opened in the old Movieland building. It's Titanic and Bodies exhibits. Sorta curious about the exhibits, but mostly interested in seeing how they use the building.

i thought the World of Color Winter Dreams at DCA was pretty cool. i would like to see it again from a better section to see if i might like it better. It's very Frozen heavy and that was good by me since i saw it a couple of times already (and love it). New lighting on the whole of Screamin' in the background is a groovy boost to the lighting pallet of WoC.

Down the way from WoC is Feliz Navidad. The street show/parade is a lot of fun:

And here's a picture from the live stuff that happens before Frozen at the El Capitan:

This is dumb. I would have no problem providing proof of my disability if things stayed the old way. Who would?

Nobody was pretending to be disabled before. What was happening was rich people hiring disabled people to go with them, because under the old system they allowed the entire party to skip lines. Now you get a voucher to return fast-pass style instead of just walking on.

Oh yes the were. They didn't ask for one bit of proof at the desk when asking for the pass, management would not allow them to. All they could do was ask what your limitations were. I would often get a judgemental look from the dumbass cast members, but would always be granted the disabled pass. I guarantee people with no disability abused the system by requesting passes. Especially the overweight old ladies on their rented Disney scooters. Being old and heavy is not a disability, bitches.

Thanks for the tip on the SoCal discount. I think I'll be having a 2 day cake day party at the Mouse House.

The Mary Poppins backstory based film 'Saving Mr. Banks/Private Ryan/A cargo ship from pirates/Myself as a Cast Away' has some nice vintage mock Disneyland scenes in it. And, yes, you can't get 'Just a spoonful of sugar..." out of your head the next day.

There is a basketball court inside the matterhorn. Also, the Right track is 19 seconds longer.

That's a cool infographic, the Matterhorn's probably my favorite Disneyland ride. The left side was my favorite.

Thanks Wes. That is awesome. i love when the opportunity comes up to be able to see behind the scenes stuff for rides. Especially getting stuck on a ride to the point where the cast members have to walk you off. i've only had it happen a few times (which is strange considering i go so much). my favorite times were on Splash Mountain right before the last hill to the final drop (a few years ago) and on the Peoplemover in the 80's. It was night and as we were being walked on the track (stuck deep in Autopia territory) to the Tomorrowland Sky Way station roof as the fire works were going off. That was the best.

This is a picture of me when the Splash Mountain break down happened

I was on Monster's Inc 2 years ago and it broke down fairly early in the ride so we got to walk through almost the entire thing. It was very cool.

Next week, I am off to Orlando for the Harry Potter Celebration at Universal/Islands of Adventure. And I am adding a couple of extra days to the trip to stay and play at DisneyWorld. So five months ago, when I started planning this trip and looking into discount tix for DisneyWorld, it dawned on me that if I get the Disney Premiere Pass, I can go back later in the year to make it worth while (after Diagon Alley opens at Universal). I only know one other local person who had the Premiere Pass and he said he felt it was worth it with two trips to DisneyWorld. So I have saved my pennies, and asked for money for Christmas, and I have the $979 for this pass. I can't wait.

Whats going on with Big Thunder Mt? It's been down over a year I believe.

I hope they don't change any of the aesthetics in the ride. It was/is perfect.

Our theory is they might be adding a photo rig on top of whatever else they're doing. I think it was originally scheduled to open again around October.
