The plan became "Let's huck a bunch of long balls at him so he can flick it on for Rooney," and the Italians took the very novel approach of not even challenging Carroll in the air but rather used their numerical advantage in defense to instantly win the ball back.

Very disappointing match. Spain refuses to push forward with any intent, and Portugal haven't taken advantage with the few chances they have created. I smell PK's, unfortunately.

Have to give the Italians credit. They put Germany on their heels from the outset. I don't think Zee Germans expected Italy to push forward and have the high press on.

Still, Germany created plenty of chances. Should have put some in.

Italy looked great today, and they will certainly be a difficult opponent for Spain on Sunday. I think the Spain v Italy group game has been the best match of the entire tournament, so I'm happy to see these two teams meet in the final.
